Four years after the release of his 2014 film Robo, Superstar Rajinikanth has made a grand comeback with his latest outing Vikramasimha, which is the dubbed version of his much-talked about film Kochadaiyaan. KS Ravikumar has written the story, while Rajini's daughter Soundarya directed the film, which has been produced by Eros International with a whopping budget of Rs 125 crores.

Vikramasimha is motion capture 3D computer-animated period film and Rajinikanth's acting is the main highlight of the movie. KS Ravikumar's wonderful script, AR Rahman's melodious music, Rajiv Menon's picturisation, Peter Hein's action and war scenes, well-choreographed dance sequences, Deepika Padukone's acting and Digitally created Nagesh's scenes are other attractions in it. But poor graphics work is one major drawback of the film.

After Rajinikanth, KS Ravikumar-written story is the second hero in Vikramasimha, which is the fictional account of Pandiyan king Kochadaiiyaan Ranadhiran's life and his conquests. It shows the benevolent king's sense of justice and his fight against the evils. For the first time in India, the facial performance capture technology, which was used in Hollywood movies like Tin Tin and Avatar, has been used in this movie to recreate live actors performance in 3D.

Director Soundarya Rajinikanth has got good grip on the narration of Vikramasimha. Rajini's voice and AR Rahman's couple of composition will keep you engrossed in the narration in the first half of the film. Rajini's acting and a war scenes are enjoyable in the second half. When compared to the first half, the second half of the film is very entertaining.

Rana (Rajinikanth) is fighting to regain the lost glory of his father Vikramsimha (Rajinikanth). Valiant warrior Rana impresses the king of Kalingpuram. He wins his trust and on his advise, the king declares a war against Kottaipattanam. But the king is shocked to see Rana supporting his rival king in the battlefield. Kalingpuram king is hurt by Rana's betrayal and now he seeks revenge against him. On the the side, Kottaipattanam king is moved by Rana's work in the battlefield and appoints him as the Commander In Chief. What happens next will form the crux of the story.

Rajinikanth's costumes, action dialogue diction are impressive and he is the showman in Vikramasimha. His young looks are also good. Deepika has done her best, but her looks are not so good. The digitally created Nagesh characters is fantastic, Aadhi, Sarathkumar, Jackie Shroff and others' looks are good in their respective respective roles.

Vikramasimha has rich production values and AR Rahman's music is main attraction in the technical front. His background score, which is one the big assets of the film, is superb in war sequences. Rajiv Menon's cinematography is good. Other departments have also done commendable job. The motion capture 3D computer-animation technology is good, but it is not upto the Hollywood standards.

Overall, Vikramasimha is a wonderful experiment in Indian cinema, but it may not impress many Rajini fans. The movie has an interesting story and it could have been a brilliant movie for Rajini fans, if it was brought to the screen without the animated photo-realistic motion picture format. #Vikramasimha [Interval] - Slightly disappointed with the content, completely disappointed with the Photo Realistic 3D effects. (Interval) - Production Values, Rajinikanth Introduction Scenes and @arrahman's BGM are highlights of the First half.. dialogues (In the End) and @Arrahman's BGM nothing works in the favor of the movie. (part 2) Except for Intent to make a Photo realistic Periodic 3D film, Vikramasimha episode, Sriramakrishna (part 1)
