Vishnu has only one hit in his career in the form of Dhee. It was not the merit of Vishnu but the directorial abilities of Sreenu Vaitla, which made the film a great entertainer. However, the joy of success did not last long for Vishnu, as he delivered a big dud like Saleem due to the sheer mistake of another director. Now, Vishnu went for soul searching and shed his weight and took a long gap and finally decided to produce a film for himself as none of them came forward to produce a film. However, due to the spineless direction of Hemant Madhukar, the film has fell flat again. Read on for Vastadu Naa Raju review.
Story:
Narasimha (Prakashraj) is a local goon, who resorts to murders and extortion at the behest of Home Minister Adikesavulu (Sayaji Shinde). Narasimha"s life ambition is to become an MLA and sit in Assembly. Though Adikesavulu laughs at Narasimha on learning his life ambition, he agrees to make him an MLA and if possible a minister, as his son Ajay (Ajay) falls in love with Narasimha"s sister Puja (Tapasee). Venky (Vishnu) is a happy-go-lucky guy. His parents (Tanikella Bharani and Tulasi) run a bakery and Venky has a sister and a brother. Though, Venky and Puja doesn"t know each other, Narasimha mistakes that both of them are in love and attacks Venky"s family. What happens next should be seen on-screen.
Performance:
Vishnu needs to put on some weight as he is looked very weak. Performance wise, he has to improve a lot and should be careful in selecting stories for his next films. Tapsee, no doubt, looks glamorous but she too has to improve her acting capabilities. She should understand that mere exhibition of navel and waist won"t fetch her good roles. Prakash Raj has delivered good comedy and in fact he was wasted in the film. Sayaji Shinde, Tanikella Bharani, Satyam Rajesh, Siva Reddy and others have done justice to their roles. Brahmanandam, who was known as one of the best comedians of the Tollywood, is wasted again in this film, as the director has failed to pen good comedy track for him. Surekhavani has tried to tickle the funny bone of the audiences, as the wife of Sayaji Shinde and love interest of Brahmanandam, but it has failed to evoke laughter.
Technical:
Senior cinematographer S Gopal Reddy has tried his best to capture the beauty of the heroine and the camera work during the picturisation of the songs is excellent. However, Mani Sharma has failed to deliver foot-tapping tunes and their choreography is also poor. Editing by Gauthamraju is very bad, as he allowed many jerks in the scenes. Especially, in the second half, there is inconsistency in the running of the film. When it comes to the storyline, the director had something in mind but could not present in a proper format on-screen. The screenplay is pathetic and has many loose ends.
Remarks:
Wait for the release of DVD and watch it at home, in case if you find some leisure. The film is nothing good to offer nor has any kind of entertainment. Once again, Vishnu has to taste a sour experience. Though, the film is not that bad as Saleem, Vishnu can"t expect a commercial success with Vastadu Naa Raju.
