Bheemili Kabaddi - Review

Friday, July 9, 2010, 17:38 [IST]
In a bid to cash in on the tradition that all the films that came in Telugu with sports backdrop were big hits. Even, Mega Super Good Movies have made an attempt to remake a successful Tamil film Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu in Telugu. While the original had a new director, a new hero and new heroine, the Telugu version too had a debutant director, Tatineni Satya, who is the grandson of senior director Tatineni Prakasa Rao. However, the director"s immaturity played the spoilsport to some extent as the film failed to catch the pulse of the audiences.

Story:
Suri (Naani) is interested in kabaddi and he used to play with a group of children (Dhanraj, Vinay, Santosh, Siva, Ramesh, Krishna Chaitanya) in his childhood. But after growing up, his teammates never allowed him to play in their team in the local matches. However, the team could never bag a victory in the absence of proper coaching. Despite good interest and commitment, Suri could not get a chance to play in any of the matches.

Once a girl (Saranya Mohan) visits the village for a jatara and Suri loves her at first sight. That girl to appears to be pleased with Suri. After the jatara the girl leaves to Rajahmundry, without revealing her name to Suri. Suri"s friends learn that a tournament is taking place in Rajahmundry and wanted to take part in it. After going there, they come to know that it was a state-level tournament and the players and teams have been picked long ago.

Bheemili team gets a wild card entry with the help of a coach (Kishore) of Hyderabad team. During the tournament, the coach gets insulted by the captain of the Hyderabad team and he parts with Bheemili team and coaches them. Whether the Bheemili team make it to the finals? Did they win the tournament? What happened to the Suri's love story? What kind of moral support the coach gave to the team and made them to fight with commitment to achieve the set target? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.

PLUS:
The plus points in the film is the second half of the movie, when the kabaddi matches were played. Naani has given his best and suited perfectly to the role. He has shown lots of improvement from his first film Ashta Chemma and was able to portray good emotions in the movie. He has done it with good ease, especially in dances sequence and love scenes. He has proved that he is here to stay in films. The audiences got the feel that his body language and histrionics are adequate. Saranya Mohan, who became a known face for the Telugu audiences with Villagelo Vinayakudu and who played heroine in Tamil original. But She did not get much scope to perform and she has very few dialogues in the film. However, her cute smile is impressive and pleasing. In other words, her character has very less importance. Other artistes have done justice to their roles. Camera work by Chittibabu is okay to some extent as he was able to present the village atmosphere perfectly on the screen.

MINUS:
Music by Selva Ganesh is not impressive as the songs were not so melodious and soothing. Even the re-recording remained average. The director, Tatineni Satya, who made his debut with the film failed to narrate the story in an impressive way. He made the audiences remain bored with the nagging and dragging first half to establish the love thread between the hero and heroine. The story gains momentum and by the time, the film reached the climax, the director again spoiled the mood of the audiences by making it a tragedy.

Analysis:
The director"s immaturity made the film boring and despite good performance by the hero, it remained waste. The film neither had an appeal for multiplex audiences nor it could entertain the mass audiences.  As a result, the film evoked a below average talk.

Climax is terrific. The movie is very encouraging and filled with motivation at the same time the death of a sportsman, that too so horrible cannot be accepted and demotivates many young sports people. If I were the director, the climax would be modified with the sports man alive and meet his lover at the Jatara, even though it is routine. Life to the sports man(Hero) gives life to common man who are leading their lives in miserable conditions.
