The film unit of Valentine, directed and produced by Sripada Viswakarma, did a big hungama before the release of the film stating that the film was based on the theme of Valentine's history and that was modernised to suit the present generation. Like there was an old story in Telugu on elephant and its shit, the film has nothing but an admixture of love, extremism, action, police and also a message in it and it is nothing to do with St Valentine.
The film starts with the blast of a minister's car and his killing. Soon, there is a narration of the history of St Valentine, who sacrifices his life for the sake of lovers in the form of a death penalty by the King. The day he died for lovers, i.e., February 14, 276 AD, is being observed as Valentine's Day. Next comes the scene where an American girl Sujane (Sujane) inspired by Mother Teresa reaches India to do social work and to uplift the poor people. On the other side, in India, there are four friends called Vishal, Christopher, Saleem and Shakir. Vishal, though well educated does not get a job and runs an autorickshaw, while Christopher is a good dancer, Saleem runs a greeting cards shop and Shakir acts as a police informer. Sujane takes the help of these four friends in continuing her mission. Saleem loves the daughter of a police officer and marries her with the help of friends against her parents' wish. However, they live a happy life. Christopher always wants to marry a rich girl and enjoy the life. Shakir dreams of going to the US and become a Green Card holder. Vishu turns a good friend of Sujane as both of them had similar thoughts. Later, she loses her heart to Vishu. Father of Saleem's wife, who is a police officer, bores a grudge against Saleem's friends as they perform their marriage. Shakir's dreams get shattered as his Visa gets rejected by the embassy. He then decides to secure a Green Card by marrying an American girl and eyes Sujane. Shakir ditches Vishu and fixes the latter as an extremist. Sujane, who learns that Vishu is also loving her, makes efforts to meet Vishu and meets him and tells him that an American firm has agreed to sponsor Vishu's project. The extremists bribe a police officer and escape from the prison along with Vishu. Shakir somehow wants to marry Sujane and in the climax, when he attempts to rape her, the police kill him in an encounter. The film ends with the union of Vishu and Sujane.
PLUS: There are absolutely no plus points in the film. The narration of the film is quite different and novel but that does not suit the taste of the Telugu audience. The performance of the foreign girl Sujane is worth watching. She gave a good and brilliant performance.
MINUS: The selection of artists is a big drawback in the film. Except those two who played Vishu and Shakir, none is able to deliver good. Even Vishu's dialogue modulation was not perfect, but to some extent he has showed good body language. Many of the key departments including dialogues, screenplay and story have been handled by director cum producer Sripada Viswakarma, which made haphazard. Camera by Rajasekharan is good in part. Music is just okay and the re-recording is a big drawback. Editing by Ramesh is atrocious.
REMARKS: The Hollywood style of publicity, campaign by the film unit before the release of the film explaining the greatness of the story, narration and the movement, failed to achieve any results. Those, who watch the film, would grope in the dark and several question marks ringing in the minds of the audience. Especially, a girl from a foreign origin, who wants to serve the society, moves around in the city without a vehicle and goes everywhere on foot. She doesn't carry even a mobile at a time, when the society is so developed that even a vegetable vendor is carrying a mobile these days. There are several loopholes in the film. A film which could be easily ignored and there is no wonder if the film boxes return to the distributor even before a week.
