Director Harish Shankar's highly-anticipated Telugu movie Ramayya Vasthavayya, which hit the screens on October 11, has garnered mixed reviews and average ratings from film critics, who opine that Junior NTR's performance is the only saving gracing in the film. Many reviewers feel that it is a routine revenge drama and the director has done nothing, but laced the old story with some masala elements.

Nandu (NTR) is a college student, who is more involved in street fights than studies. He falls in love with Akarsha (Samantha). After winning her trust, he travels with her family for her older sister's wedding. There we get to know that Nandu is a man on a mission. He has a bad past and targets everyone, who caused pain to him. Besides direction, Harish Shankar has also written screenplay and dialogues for the film.

Ramayya Vasthavayya is a commercial entertainer. Junior NTR's performance, punch dialogues, S Thaman's trendy music and background score, Chota K Naidu's beautiful picturisation, a few humourous scenes and one-liners, brilliantly choreographed action and dance sequences are the main highlights in the film. The critics feel that the first half is quite enjoyable, but the movie hits the rock bottom with some tried and tested story, predictable plot and boring action in the second half.

The movie has been rated an average of 2.5 out of 5. Continue to read film critics' verdict on Ramayya Vasthavayya in the slideshow.

Ramayya Vasthavayya - Oneindia Rating: 2.5

Ramayya Vasthavayya is purely a mass masala entertainer that will impress all classes of audiences. Junior NTR's acting, Harish direction, Samantha's glamour and Thaman's music stand out in the film. It is a brilliant treat from Dil Raju team.

The Hindu - Sangeetha Devi Dundoo

Until a few minutes before the interval, you're left looking beneath the surface of the comedy, songs and romance to see what the film is trying to communicate to you. And post interval, when the film takes you into a rural hamlet and recalls an ill-fated past followed by revenge, there's way too much bloodshed that leaves you numb. Watch this film if you are an NTR fan.

Deccan Chronicle - Sandeep Atreysa's Rating: 1.5

What you can't find fault in the film is Jr NTR's pitch-perfect performance. Especially his dance moves are very good. On the whole, the film fails to meet the expectations and turns into a damp squib. It is not worth watching unless you're a fan of Jr NTR. Sadly, like most other big-ticket films, this too strictly made on hero worship convention, contrary to script-driven films. Hope Telugu filmmakers try to break these grounds and stereotypes in days to come in order to offer good films to audiences.

IBN Live - Rating: 1

RV is a hero-worshipping, fan-appealing film that gets almost everything in the book of filmmaking wrong.

IndiaGlitz - Rating: 2.75

A paper-thin storyline is the least of Ramayya's imperfections. Too much violence in the second half rips it of entertainment value.

Times City - Karthik Pasupulate's Rating: 3

Watch it only if you love NTR Jr, it's a as good a show reel of the actor as any, if you are looking for something else, you'll go back disappointed.

Gulte - Rating: 2.5

Ramayya Vasthavayya is a strict no no to family audience. NTR fans may like it as their favorite hero has shown a different angle in him. Masses who like to watch bloodshed and mindless action may find it worth a watch. As per content of the film and cinematic experience, Ramayya leaves nothing to take home. NTR's sincere attempt has gone wasted on a mediocre script. His wait for that much needed blockbuster continues.

123Telugu - Mahesh S Koneru's Rating: 3.25

Ramayya Vasthavayya is a stylish mass entertainer that showcases all of NTR's abilities very well. The superb first half is a big asset. A predictable and below par second half is a slight let down. However, the film should work well at the Box Office and NTR's fans will be a delighted lot.

MAA Stars - Rating: 3

Ramayya Vasthavayya is good masala entertainer that will impress all classes of audiences. NTR's energitic performance and dances, Harish direction, Samantha's glamour and Thaman's music stand out in the film. It is a feast for fans.

Chitramala - Rohit's Rating: 2

Junior on occasion with his dances and Ravi Shankar playing a lustful politician were the only things I can faintly recall as entertaining from this noisy blank of a film.

DesiMartin - Raja Satish's Rating: 2.5

Ramayya Vasthavayya is an out-and-out NTR film. This is an attempt by the director to take the hero's acting prowess to next level. In this process, he didn't make an attempt to pen a good story. He simply culled the plot and the screenplay from various films and laced it with humor, songs and fights. It seems the reputation of Harish Shankar became a cast-iron straitjacket from which it's difficult to break out, or he doesn't want to break out.

Telugu Mirchi - Swathi's Rating: 2.5

Thaman's music is ok. ‘Jabili nuvve cheppama' song is picturised extremely well. Chota's cinematography deserves praise. Second half should have been trimmed. Harish is known for one line dialogues . But he hasn't done much in this flick. He could have made better use of a star like NTR who has excellent dialogue delivery. This is a normal story. NTR's magic is the main asset. NTR fans will be impressed. As this is Dussera season and there are no other competing movies Ramayya Vasthavayya may smile through its way.

TeluguCinema - JP's Rating: 2.75

Can watch it for its first half and for NTR. Other than that, the movie is just another routine revenge drama that fails to impress.
