Naveen Kalyan claims that he had registered the title Damarukam at the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce (APFCC) in 2008. He even started shooting for the movie in 2011 and has already finished 50% of the shooting. But the filming was halted following his hospitalisation after an accident. The filmmaker adds that RR Movie Makers have hijacked the title.
As per the new rule of the apex body, a title can be transferred to another producer after three months if the registered producer does not use it. But Naveen Kalyan says that this rule is not applicable to him as he has completed 50% of filming. The producer adds that he has approached the court and sued the AP Film Chamber for not taking action against them.
Naveen Kalyan further claims that he has already spent around Rs 60 lakh on the film Damarukam and is now in a financial mess. It is being rumoured that producer Suresh Reddy has approached Kalyan for an out-of-court settlement and promised to pay him Rs 1 crore. Kalyan admits Suresh Reddy calling him 15 days ago. But he denies that he offered any financial package.
However, Nagarjuna and Anushka Shetty starrer romance drama Damarukam, which is directed by Srinivasa Reddy, went on floors on April 25, 2011 and the film unit has completed maximum portions of its shooting in India and Switzerland. The makers of the film have planned to release it on October 12. It should be seen whether Nag will give up the title or not.
