Magadheera accused of plagiarism by Vangapandu

Telugu movie Magadheera, which has been doing great at the Box Office, has been accused of plagiarism by folk lyricist Vangapandu Prasada Rao. The balladeer has claimed that Magadheera filmmakers have used his song without his prior permission in the film.

According to Vangapandu Prasada Rao, the lines from 'Yem pillado eldaam vasthava" have been used with vulgar picturisation without taking his consent in the song 'Paita naligithey ma amma oppukuntadeti" that was picturised on Kim Sharma.

'Yem pillado' was basically meant for the movie Ardharathri Swatantram, which is directed by T Krishna. "My song was an inspiration to the revolutionary movement way back in the '80s. But it was misused and the scenes of the film song are vulgar," Times Of India quoted Vangapandu on Wednesday.

According to the TOI, Vangapandu has charged the producer and the director with degrading the inspirational song. He insisted that the makers of Magadheera must apologise to the revolutionaries for misusing a great song and remove the lines from the song.

This new controversy over copying the folk song could be a big threat to the success of the movie Magadheera. However, Magadheera filmmakers are yet to respond to Vangapandu's claims.

Double standards of Allu Aravind & co is outreageous. On one hand, they protest piracy of their movies, while on the other they don't even blink while copying lyrics from writers, themes from Hollywood.

This move is one of the rarest to rare ever taken and especially the action and sets and locations were amusingly ecstatic so far I have seen in the movies in the last several years. This proves that our Indian Cinema, more significantly when it comes to spending money on sets and fight sequences, we are not superior than anyone, much much much better than Holywood.

I support the other statements. The movie didn't copy the tune of that song or the song itself. It was only 4 words, which has no relation to that old song. Vangapandu is just trying trying to gain something or was influenced by others(politicians) to create bad image on the film. However, I need to add, this is adding more publicity to the movie. The movie is great. I watched it 4 times already. Its a good movie.

Who is copying whose song (or a portion of it) / tune ? The line in question is 'Yem pillado yeldha mosthava...'. Who has authored it ? Certainly not Vangapandu ! He himself says that he has written it in 1972. I remember humming the song in our villages in Prakasam District in late 50s onwards. This particular song which runs 'YEM PILLO YELDHA MOSTHAVAA', is sung by folklore during celebrations/festivals in nearby towns(called Tirunalla/santha) Vangapandu has picked up these lines along with the tune from folklore which were highly popular by that time and created a similar song to propagate his ideology. But he has uplifted the beginning lines(pallavi)and the tune as it is..This being the case, how can he claims authorship over such songs/tunes ? Like manasaa, chalmohan ranga, dingari, hailesa....songs which were extreemly popular are used by the leaders of the people's movements to spread their ideology powerfully to the rural masses. Even Kosaraju used many such songs, tunes in old Telugu movies. I regret very much for a poet like Vangapandu claiming a right over a line/tune which is not his own. Till now I have the highest regard for him like I used to have on others like Gaddar, Goreti etc., What is really intriguing is......Vangapandu is demanding compensation. Even most of the journalists, to sympathize the people’s poet, are taking sides, deliberately ignoring the issue.(like Allam Narayana’s column in AJ today). The issue is -who has the right over the song or few lines and tunes whose creation is unknown and widely popular among the rural masses. Just because Vangapandu used those lines and added some more and that song is popular for a few decades, does not sanction him the rights. If vangapandu has the right to copy some songs, lines or tunes and use it for his purpose, why not others. In such a scenario, how can anybody question the person on the usage of it, even if it is used in vulgar songs/devotional songs.

In the first place Vangapandu Prasada Rao and T Krishna must be arrested for making Revolutionary movies in which they downgrade Govt and show as if they are rite. These B*a*stards want popularity for their sucking movie Ardharatri Swatantram.Tat's the main cause behind all this drama and wat his prob is they lines written in his song ...kya woh wordings uska baap ka jaaagir hai...we shld be ashamed of allowing these sought of movies..they shld be banned especially these revolutionary idiots..they think they are fighters..but rather they are negetive elements of soceity..tomorrow they might turn into Naxallites..
