Actor Sanil Sodhi, who has starred in a few TV serials and Hindi movies, has been arrested by the Mumbai police on Monday for allegedly sending his nude photos to the wife of an NCP leader. According to the police, the star had sent his naked pictures through his Blackberry cellphone to the victim. The police are now investigating whether he is involved in any flesh trade racket.
Sanil Sodhi is a son of a retired IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh. He had reportedly met the victim at a prayer meeting four months ago. The victim is a housewife and she is staying with her husband and children at Versova in Andheri (west). She approached the Versova police station in the early hours of Monday and registered an FIR against him.
Talking to a leading English daily, Sharad Borse, the police inspector from the Versova police station, says, "We have booked Sodhi under Section 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act." He adds, "Soon after registering the FIR, Sodhi was placed under arrest. We produced him in the magistrate's court and got his custody for two days."
Sanil Sodhi started his career as an actor and stared in the TV series Rishtey (on Zee TV), Hum (on DD1), Pintoo, and also acted in the Bollywood movie Hu Tu Tu and Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Ma. He was going through a dry patch for last couple of years and was going out with married women to entertain them. The police suspect that he must be involved into flesh trade racket. Hence, they have seized his cellphone and are scanning the data in it.
