Layoffs have become one of the most widely used terms in everyday life now so how can the television industry not try to cash on it. It might sound crewel to many but we will soon have a television reality show on layoffs. Every week a struggling company will be featured where employees will vote against each other and decide who gets the boot from the employer.
The show Somebody's Gotta Go will be produced by Endemol the creators of Big Brother and will be televised in US to start with. They will focus on small companies with 15-20 staff strength. The balance sheet of the companies would be opened to the employees and their performance would be discussed before the vote out.
This show might soon find its way to India as the production house had successfully run Bigg Boss the Indian version of the reality show Big Brother. The format of the show might be altered in India as layoffs are still a hush hush affair here. Endemaol however is trying to study the impact of such a show on its brand image in India as reality show being responsible for a job loss might prove to be controversial.
Love and backbiting is the theme behind MTV Splitsvilla and Rakhi Sawant will soon tie the knot in Rakhi Ka Swayamvar. Well it seems reality television has come a long way from the traditional song and dance competitions and now lay-offs might become next big thing in the Indian reality television industry. Whats next reality crime show?
