Superstar Surya and director Hari's third combo film Singam was a superhit at the Box Office. Following this success, the movie was remade in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and a few Indian languages. This super-hit hat-trick jodi is back with a sequel to the film and their latest offering Singam 2 is more racy, promising and entertaining than its prequel. The director has employed double dose of every commercial element to make it a mass masala potboiler.
Singam 2 is a romantic action movie with double dose of each commercial element to appeal to all class of the audiences. Surya's electrifying performance is the main highlight in it. Hari's interesting story, racy narration and hard-hitting dialogues, Devi Sri Prasad's music and background score, Priyan's beautiful picturisation, Vivek-Santhnam's rib tickling comedy, wonderfully choreographed action, stunt and dance sequences, beautiful locales and art work are other big attractions of the film. Lengthy screenplay, routine stuff and poor characterisation of villain are some of its major drawbacks.
In the climax of Singam, Duraisingam decides to resign for his post of police officer and goes back to his village after ending big-time extortionist Mayil Vaaganam's mafia dealings. But seeing his courage and smartness, the Home Minister assigns him a new duty of unearthing the weapon smuggling. The story of Singam 2 begins here. Set in Thoothukudi, this sequel features Duraisingam going undercover to find out the international don behind these alleged activities.
Following the Home Minister's order, Duraisingam (Surya) starts working as an NCC teacher at a school in Thoothukudi. After uncovering a dangerous criminal network, he sets up 'Operation D' to nab international drug dealer. How he traps him will form the crux of the story, which is a treat to watch on screen.

Singam 2 - Second Half
The twist at the interval sets your mood to enjoy the thriller. But the movie soon goes predictable in the second half. The director repeated the same mistake he did in the first half. The climax is also predictable and an average fare.
As usual, Surya excels in his role and he has delivered a brilliant performance. After all, Singam 2 is his show and he rocks you in all action, dance, comedy and romantic scenes. His dialogue delivery is natural and loud. His acting seems to be more matured in Singam 2 compared to its prequel.
Anushka, Hansika - As Heroines
Anushka Shetty seems to have less scope for her role in Singam 2, when compared to her role in its prequel. She has done justice to the given opportunity. Her chemistry with Surya is sure to rock you again. Compared to Anushka, other heroine Hansika has even less screen presence. She has also done justice to her role.
If you ask to name one biggest mistake of Hari in Singam 2 is his characterisation. The director seems to have employed too many characters and has failed to provide them proper screen presence. Except Surya, all other characters, including heroines and villains, just come and go. But all artists have done justice to the given space. Santhanam and Vivek try to evoke laughter with cliched lines. The presence of all villains put together in Singam 2 is not equal to that of Prakash Raj in its prequel.
Devi Sri Prasad's Music
Singam 2 has rich production values and Devi Sri Prasad's soundtracks and background scores are main highlights in the technical front. But when compared to the music of its prequel, DSP has failed to hit the mark.
Priyan's Camera Work
The picturisation is another highlight in the technical front. Priyan has captured some of the best angles in beautiful locales like Kerala, Tuticorin, Chennai, Hyderabad, Malaysia, Tirunelveli and Karaikudi, Durban, Cape Town and Joburg in South Africa as well as Kenya. His cinematography is a visual treat and a big asset for the film Singam 2.
Singam 2 - Other Technical Departments
The punch dialogues and well-choreographed action and chase scenes are among the main attractions of the film. Editor VT Vijayan should have trimmed certain scene and shortened the length especially in the second half, which has a bit dragging narration. Other technicians have done a commendable job.
Singam 2 - Verdict
Singam 2 is a typical Hari style movie, which is routine, loud, long and racy. The director has forced too much content, which demands more characters and time. But he has made it watchable and enjoyable action entertainer. Singam 2 is not as good as its prequel, but is definitely not bad too. This movie will come as a relief for Surya after 7Am Arivu and Maatraan. Thanks to Hari.
