Lingusamy's Paiya is yet another hero oriented mass masala with a thin romantic coating. The only plus point of the movie is song sequences, thanks to the peppy numbers of composer Yuvan! There is no need for searching a story in this kind of films. The film is just filled with as usual hero heroine meeting, love at first sight, meaningless duets and handful fights etc...
Shiva (Karthi) is a jobless young man. He is in lookout for a job and comes to Bangalore for an interview with his close friends where he sees Charu (Tamanna). As usual he falls in love and dreams a lot. To hype his adrenaline, Charu nears him and requests for a ride to Mumbai.
On the way to Mumbai, Charu explains why she came to Bangalore and her real problems. At that time a gang chase them and Shiva clears them successfully. But another gang also chase them.. all are from Mumbai. But this time they are not chasing Charu. Their target is Shiva. After fighting with them, Shiva explains his Mumbai connections and the flashback.
Now both the Andhra as well as Mumbai gangs chase them. Shiva handles some 50 plus goons single handedly. So there is no need for explaining the remaining part... i.e., how they escapes from the chase and joins in the love track!
Karthi is the hero... thanks to the director for showing him in neat pants and T shirts instead of unwashed lungi (or half pants) and sleeveless briefs. As an action hero, the role he plays in the film, Karthi does what the script need. Thats all and nothing special to mention about his character more than this.
At the same time his abnormal and irritating stunts like beating 50 plus goons single handedly is possible in Tamil cinema only.. not in real life. Very soon, we may expect that Karthi can beat 100 badmen or even the population of big town like Coimbatore in his very next movie!
Tamanna is looking nice in a few scenes and irritates some sequences. But the chemistry between the lead pair is working out very well in the song sequences. The director wasted Milind Soman for a meaningless character.
The post interval scenes are boring and every twist can be easily predicted by the viewers, even by a child! The real hero of the film is not Karthi... it is Yuvan Shankar Raja. His tunes and perfect background score makes us to watch the film till the end card. Muthukumar's lyrics are catchy and meaningful. Mathi's camera work is ok.
Watch it for just killing your golden time!
