Poi Solla Porom - Review

Poi Solla Porom
Director Vijay's remake of Khosla Ka Ghosla is a complete comedy riot that makes everyone enjoy the film.

The story is about 'Madhyamar' (The term used by the late legend Sujatha to mention the typical middle class people) people and their struggle for owning a plot in the suburbs of Chennai amidst the cruel real estate agents.

The Story line is very simple but heart touching.

Nedumudi Venu is an honest retired government officer with usual middle class values. He has a happy family consisting of his loving wife, two sons Karthik, a techie, and Om, a student-and a daughter. Venu invests all his earnings in a plot of land in Velachery. Real estate dealer Haneefa cons them with the backing of the land shark Nassar, who grabs the plot and claims that he has the documents to prove it as his own!

He relents that if Venu pays Rs.12 lakhs, he will return the land.

Venu does not want to get into further mess and almost gives up his attempt to thwart Nasser's predatory tactics. But his sons don't give up that easily and decide to dupe the cheater of his millions in order to pay him back the money he demanded to free the land he is squatting on!

A drama troupe artist (Mouli, Pia and Balaji) and travel Agent Bosky (a former assistant of Nasser who knows all the fraudulent techniques of Nasser) come forward to help Karthik's efforts to rescue the land.

How they redeem the land from the dangerous Nasser is the interesting climax of the film.

Nedumudi Venu perfectly suits the role as Sathyanathan, the honest retired man. Rajesh's voice also helps a lot to portray the character lively...

Nassar excels in his character as real estate giant and his body language is commendable.

Mouli, Pia, Bosky and Balaji are simply superb in their role. Particularly, Balaji deserves a pat on his shoulder for performing the role with maximum fun.

Karthik Kumar, the young artist familiar in the roles of foreign return in all his previous films, has done a different role which suits him aptly.

Om, the new guy who plays the role of Karthik's brother, has a big future.

M .G. Sreekumar's music is not suited for the genre and the songs are also not much impressive. Aravind Krishna's camera and Antony's editing are the pluses of the film.

Vijay, the young man has proved himself as a good director through his simple but fun filled style of narration

Cast: Nasser, Nedumudi Venu, Karthik, Haneefa, Bosky, Pia
Music: M.G.Srikumar
Direction: Vijay
Producer: Priyadharshan, UTV Production

I am sure for those who haven't watched the Hindi version this would be a nice watch but the actors fail to flair up the same sense in Tamil. Anupam Kher and Boman Irani were great all thru the movie we miss that in the tamil version... but I am sure people who haven't watched the Hindi version would surely love it.. For me its Khosla ka Ghosla anyday... I watch it everytime I am stressed out may have watched it may be 25 times :)
