Veteran Tamil Lyricist Vaali Passed Away

Veteran Tamil lyricist Vaali, 81, passed away this afternoon. Vaali was hospitalised for past one month due to health issues. He was put on ventilator for the last two days. Vaali is survived by his son.

It is said that, Vaali was suffering from lung related issue and was admitted to Apollo hospital in Chennai, but his condition got worse on Tuesday night, and was put on a ventilator.

The poet-lyricist-actor-writer was active in Tamil industry since five decades. He has penned nearly ten thousand songs in his career. He also wrote two songs for Dhanush's Mariyan, directed by Bharath Bala which is scheduled to release tomorrow.

As an actor, Vaali appeared in Hey Ram, Sathya and Paarthale Parvasam. Vaali was honoured with Padmashri Award for his work to cinema and art.

Vaali

Born as S Rangarajan in Thirupathurai near Tirchi in 1931, he assumed the pen name Vaali and was famous as Vaaliba Kavignar.

Before coming to film industry, Vaali was theater enthusiast and worked in AIR as a part-time employee. His drama school had the students which includes the legend actor Sivaji Ganesan and Kanchi Swamy Jayendra Saraswati.

Vaali Career Started

In 1958, he wrote his first song for the movie Azhagarmalai Kallan. He composed music for MGR starring Padakotti, which took him to new heights. And he became permanent lyricist for MGR movies.

Vaali has also written some of the fine songs for Kamal Hassan and Rajanikanth movies. He had written scripts for movies of superstars from MGR to Dhanush.

Mariyan

In 2013, he had composed music for Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, Alex Pandian, Ethir Neechal, Udhayam NH4 and Thillu Mullu. He was the King of lyrics in Kollywood for five decades. He wrote two songs for Mariyan, which is releasing tomorrow.
