Protest against nation-wide screening of John Abraham starrer Madras Cafe is getting stronger day by day. In the latest development, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko has raised the voice against the movie in Chennai on August 19.

Vaiko alleged that Madras Cafe is portraying the Liberation of Tiger Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in bad light and requested the central government to impose ban on the movie.

"The Central government should ban the film, if screened, human rights organisations should protest against it in cities like Mumbai and Delhi," Vaiko said in a statement.

Madras Cafe is set against the backdrop of the late 80s and 90s in India and Sri Lanka, and traces the political and military histories of the two countries.

Talking about the protest from pro-Tamil activists, actor-producer John Abraham said, "I believe in the right of freedom of speech, and I won't fall prey to bullying tactics."

Madras Cafe crew organised a special preview show for the pro-Tamil outfits in Chennai on Sunday (August 18).

After watching the movie, Naam Thamizhar Katchi founder Seeman sought a ban on the movie saying that it was a film made to create enmity between Tamilians and Malayalis.

The movie has projected Malayalis in a good manner and Tamilians as villains. This will divide people.
