John Abraham Urges Chennai To Support Madras Cafe

Bollywood actor John Abraham, who is playing a lead in action film Madras Cafe, has urged people of Chennai to ensure its release on the due date.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko and founder of Naaam Thamizhar Katchi Seeman have demanded ban on the film, alleging that it has portrayed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in a bad light.

Following which John Abraham had said he won't give in to 'bullying tactics' and defended Madras Cafe has not taken any sides.

The film is set in the late 1980s and early 1990s, during the time of Sri Lankan civil war and the assassination of then Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

"I would like to urge all of Chennai to support Madras Cafe as a film and allow it to release (as per the schedule). It is a credible film made with a lot of heart and gives audiences something novel to be entertained about, vouching and encouraging cinema," John said in a statement in Mumbai. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the political espionage thriller, also starring Nargis Fakhri, is slated to release on August 23. The Hindi version of the film will be releasing on August 23, but the Tamil version of Madras Cafe is yet to get the clearance certificate from Central Board Of Film Certification.
