Born on December 12, 1950, Rajinikanth did quite a few small jobs in Bangalore before entering films.

His style and talent of tossing the cigarette to the lips were first spotted by legendary actor K Balachander at a stage play in Chennai.

Seeing his dedication and hunger to act in films, K Balachander himself introduced him to Tamil cinema in the movie Apoorva Raagangal, which also starred Kamal Hassan.

Rajinikanth played the role of a womaniser in his fourth film Moondru Mudichu. His villainous role earned him a good name.

Rajinikanth has acted in over 150 films across various languages such as Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, English and Bengali films.

Rajinikanth got the superstar status for his close-to-life roles, which were blended with his styles and punch dialogues.

More importantly, he stood different from other actors for his unique mannerisms, and the style of mouthing dialogues that eventually brought him the name - Style King.

Rajinikanth's golden era of commercial films was between 1990-2000, where his most movies were blockbusters and brought him the 'superstar' status.

During this time, the sexagenarian's one-liners and mannerisms won the hearts of the audience.

In the last two decades, most filmmakers, who have directed him, have tried to bring in a punch to the one-liners that he mouth in their movies.

The actor, who dreamt of becoming an actor, was asked to leave the profession of bus conductor and to take up acting by his close friend Rao Bahadur.

His friend initially helped and sent him to Chennai to pursue acting course.

Telugu movie Anthuleni Katha was the first-ever film where Rajinikanth played a major role.

Until then, his roles were small but this movie got him good publicity. It was the remake of Tamil super hit film Aval Oru Thodar Kathai.

It's been a long pending demand from his fans. A 63,000-member fanclub of Rajinikanth kicked off an online campaign in 2010.

For this birthday, Rajinikanth's admirers and huge fans Raghava Lawrence and Vijay Anthony have come up with a new idea to add more colour to the birthday celebration of the superstar.

Well, they have done a special song for the the actor's birthday and the track was officially released by Rajini's wife Latha recently.

The musicof the special song is composed by Vijay Anthony, and sung by the music director and Malaysian singer Emcee Jazz. It is a mass track and the song, which is penned by Annamalai, has been released on YouTube.

For this birthday, apart from celebrations, his fan clubs are holding a lot of social welfare activities today (December 12).

A series of events have been planned by his fans association in Tamil Nadu. They will distribute books, clothes and gift articles to the socially-backward classes.

Fan organisations have also planned for blood donation camps across the state. Rajinikanth is also providing financial assistance for many schools.

A couple of schools of physically and mentally challenged children, orphans and underprivileged kids will also be getting donation.

And also, two books on Rajinikanth are hitting stands on December 12.

Suresh Krissna, who has given hits like Annamalai (1992), Veera (1994) and Baasha (1995), has written a book named 'My Days With Baasha - The Rajinikanth Phenomenon'.

The second book is penned by London-based film journalist Naman Ramachandran titled 'Rajinikanth - The Definitive Biography'.

However, to add more joy to the special day, Rajini's blockbuster Sivaji - The Boss. The film also featured Shriya Saran, Suman, Vivek, Raghuvaran, Manivannan and others in the cast.

Sivaji is a political-thriller directed by Shankar. It had AR Rahman's music and it was produced by MS Guhan-M Sarvanan. The film is releasing in the 3D format on December 12.

The movie Shivaji tells the story of an NRI, who comes to India to do something good to the society. But falls into the trap of politician's devised plan to lose out all his properties.
