A brief profile...
The actor was born to veteran Sivakumar and Lakshmi on July 23, 1975. Being a kid from a filmi family, Surya choose to stay away from glitz and glamour until he completed his studies. It is only after the completion of his studies, he turned his face towards acting.
Surya made his debut in the movie, Nerrukku Ner, which also featured Vijay, directed by Vasanth and produced by Mani Ratnam. He received mixed reviews for his performance in the movie. But he waited for more years to get his first major break through in the form of Nandha, which won him the Best Actor award from the state government.
Between 2003 and 2007, Surya delivered several hits like Kaakha Kaakha, Pithamagan, Perazhagan, Aaytha Ezhuthu, Ghajini, Aaru and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. It also won him a lot of accolades and registered his name in the list of A-list stars.
Surya as Deva In Ayan
Surya played the role of a smuggler in Ayan. His good physique helped him to give the dynamic appeal to his character. His energetic performance played the major role in the success of the movie.
The movie was directed by KV Anand and produced by M Saravanan of AVM Productions. Tamanna Bhatia, Sivaji Prabhu and Akashdeep Saighai were in key roles.
By then, critics have declared that his experiments within the commercial format and his ability to avoid being typecast have played larger role in his success.
