Pictures: Rajinikanth-Kamal Hassan come together at FICCI meet

The fourth edition of the FICCI's 'Media and Entertainment Business Conclave' was kicked off on Tuesday (October 16) at the ITC Sheraton Park Hotels and Towers at 10 am.

Industry heavyweights such as Kamal Hassan, Suresh Babu, C Kalyan, B Shashi Kumar, Ameer and Barrie Osborne were all in attendance.

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, popularly known as FICCI, honoured legends from various film industries. Legendary artists K Balachander, Nadia from Tamil, Sukumari, Priyadharshan, Sheela, Madhu, Jayaram from Malayalam, Ramanaidu from Telugu and Girish Karnad, Jayanti from Kannada film industry were honoured. As an icing on the cake, Superstar Rajinikanth gave a special appearance to felicitate the legends and made the event more colourful.

The FICCI was founded in 1927 by Mahatma Gandhi as a non-profit initiative to boost Indian Industries during the freedom struggle.

The session, in the form of a panel discussion speculated the future of our Indian film industry and probed into some of the recent problems that both regional and the Hindi film fraternity are witnessing.

Tracing the roots of the FICCI movement, Kamal Hassan acknowledged the tireless work being done by FICCI's entertainment division to bring in policy changes in various segments of the media and entertainment industry.

Kamal also highlighted the various achievements of the division including accordance of 'industry status' to the film industry, submitting the TRP report to review and recommending a robust system of measurement of TRP.

Kamal Hassan proudly affirmed the South as "The residence of National Cinema!" and looked ahead to the future of digital cinema.

Kamal felt that we are more into imitating the popular culture and dress code than concentrate on scripts. Filmmakers and actors must invest more time in gathering know-how from previously produced works.

Oscar Award winning director and producer Barrie Osborne gave the keynote address for the occasion.

Impressed with the state of Indian Cinema, Osborne spoke of his desire to work with Kamal Hassan in the near future and predicted FICCI to serve as a "guiding light" to Indian Cinema for the next 100 years.
