2007: The year of off beat films!

There are 10 off beat films released in the year 2007 with different stories and novel treatment. Thankar Bachan placed top among the off beat film makers with two of his popular films Pallikoodam and Onbathu Roobai Nottu.

Among these 10 films, Periyar and Onbathu Roopai Nottu share the honour equally. Interestingly, Sathyaraj played the lead role in both these films. The increasing number of such films gives more enthusiasm to the creators, who want to do experiments in parallel cinema.

Here are the top 5 off beat films released in 2007.

1. Onbathu Roobai Nottu Cast: Sathya Raj, Archana Direction: Thankar Bachan
2. Periyar Cast: Sathya Raj, Kushboo Direction: Gnana Rajasekaran
3. Kalloori Cast: Mukil, Tamanna Director: Balaji Shakthivel
4. Ammuvagiya Naan Cast: Parthiban, Barathi Director: Padma Magan
5. Mozhi Cast: Prakash Raj, Prithviraj, Jyothika Director: Radha Mohan

Apart from these five, there are Palli Koodam (Director –Thankar Bachan, participated in Cannes festival), Sringaram (three national award winning film) also released in the year. Evano Oruvan, the remake of Nishikanth Kamath's Dombivili Fast also considered one of the best off beat films released in this year. Kreedom, the remake of Mohan Lal's Malayalam hit and Oram Po also got a place among the top 10 of parallel cinema.
 

Joshi to make his mark in Telugu

Veteran Malayalam director Joshy, who is now busy with the last phases of the much-hyped muti-starrer Twenty:20, starring all the major stars of the Malayalam film industry, will start working for a Telugu film in a short time.

Joshy has directed Telugu movies like Anthimatheerpu. After this proposed Telugu film, the director will be back to Malayalam in January for a movie starring Jayaram and Prithviraj in the lead.

Meanwhile, Twenty:20, which has completed its entire shooting in Kochi last month,.....

Tamil remake of Nandanam

Scenarist-turned-director Ranjith's Malayalam super hit Nandanam (2002), which was the debut film of both Prithviraj and Navya Nair, will soon be remade in Tamil by Ranjith himself. This will be the Tamil directorial debut of Ranjith, who was recently in the news for making Prithviraj-starrer Thirakkatha, reportedly a romantic film based on the life of late actress Srividya.

Produced by veteran producer Shogun Mohan, the Tamil version of Nandanam will have Prithviraj reprising his original role; it is most likely that.....
