KS Ravikumar, the director of Kamal starrer magnum opus Dasavatharam has filed his affidavit in the court yesterday that he never hurts any Hindu's sentiments either intentionally or accidentally. Few days before the trailer of the movie was released worldwide and the audio was also launched by Hollywood action hero Jackie Chan and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in a grand function held at Chennai.
After watching the trailer, some of the Hindu religious outfits and leaders including Sri Govinda Ramanuja Dasa of International Vaishnava Darma Rakshana raised voices against the film and even filed a petition against the film to stop the release. According to the protesters, some of the scenes in the trailer hint the past clashes between Saivites and Vaishnavites worst and seem to evoke the feelings of both the factions again for just minting money. They also criticized the censor officials for giving a clean U certificate without any objections to this movie even after seeing the religious based scenes.
The enquiry was started yesterday in The Division Bench of Chennai High Court before the Judges Rajasurya and Sathyanarayana. The counsels of Hindu outfits argued that the motive of the film is just minting money by evoking the religious clashes between the Hindus. 'Many things happened in the History of Hindu religion, but nothing like the incident mentioned in the film's trailer, which says that the Saivites thrown the deity of Vishnu into the see along with Sri Ramanujar or any of his followers. This is absolutely ridiculous and motivated to hurt the sentiments of our people."
KS Ravikumar, the director of Dasavatharam came to the court and filed his affidavit to the judges. He said, "Since I'm one of the ardent followers of Vishnu, I never try to hurt any Vaishnavites sentiments. The film is a novel effort and nothing is connected with religious things. Just by watching the trailer, filing a petition against a film is not fair enough. We just show a scene like some people have tied the hero along with a deity. The scene is just added to create the pep to the sequence and the next scene is totally different from what the petitioner imagined. It is the technique of the film making and also freedom of a creator."
He also assured the judges that the producer did not announce the release date of Dasavatharam without the court's concern. Yesterday only Oscar Ravichandran has announced that the film would be released on May 23.
The censor board official also appeared in the court and said that there was no wrong on their part in allowing the title Dasavatharam and the scenes religiously involved. After hearing the arguments, the judges have adjourned the case on next week for second hearing.
