'Silk' Smitha again!

Eleven years after her death, Actress Silk Smitha, the sensational actress who set the south Indian film world on fire with her dreamy eyes and seductive looks and excellent acting, is all set to bewitch movie goers again. Thanga Thamarai (Golden Lotus), a movie in which Smitha has acted as the lead character, will be released soon in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Silk has done over 200 Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies. Her dance numbers, even in movies of top rated heroes like legendary Sivaji Ganesan, superstar Rajini and Kamal, were a hit as such song and dance were believed to be the ultimate expression of her sensuality.

Born as Vijaya Lakshmi in a poor family in a hamlet of Andhra Pradesh, Smitha's first movie was Vandichakram. She assumed the name 'Silk' after her character's name in that movie. Rajan was one of the persons caused for Silk's entry in to Tamil cinema in 1979.

After years of enjoying celebrity status and suffering the stress of fame, she reportedly hanged herself in 1996 in a house in Vadapalani, where she was staying with one of her male friend.

"This is the first movie in which she did a lead role. She acted as a village girl in the movie. To make her fans happy, we have added four songs in which 'Silk' will be dancing to the expectations of her fans," claimed Thirupathi Rajan, Chennai based producer and director of Thanga Thamarai.

Rajan is trying to release the movie after a decade of financial struggle in completing the picture. "Luckily Smitha had completed all her scenes before her death," Rajan says. An actor named Vijayan has played the male lead.

"I'm eating, breathing and sleeping NOKJ" – Vidya

The grapevine is abuzz with the news that director Milan Luthria has asked Vidya Balan to shed a few kilos for her glamorous character in The Dirty Picture, which is based on South siren Silk Smitha, but the actress said that she has not thought of it, as she is yet to get over No One Killed Jessica.Vidya said that she is “currently eating, breathing and sleeping No One Killed Jessica" and has not thought of her character in The Dirty.....

Naseeruddin Shah to portray superstar Rajinikanth

One film that has been much talked about ever since its announcement is Ekta Kapoor's The Dirty Picture directed by Milan Luthria. The film, which is based on South siren Silk Smitha's life, has Vidya Balan essaying the lead role. Now the latest is that the makers have roped in none other than veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah to play an important role in The Dirty Picture.

Naseer saab's character is apparently based on South superstar Rajinikanth. Naseer would be seen wearing flamboyant.....
