A few years ago, the maestro of Indian cinema Isaignani Ilayaraja took a decision to sign less films for composing music. It was due to the repetitive nature of stories and the director's demand for Kuthu songs. He never compromises on quality of his work stands firm on his resolution of giving good, quality music to any film. He has been very selective in accepting films, and two of his recent releases in Hindi (Cheeni Kum) and Tamil (Inime Naangathaan) have proved his supremacy beyond doubt.

At present, he has signed 6 films in Malayalam and 2 films including Pa in Hindi. In Telugu also, Raja is working on three projects. But in Tamil, he is working for Bala's Naan Kadavul only. He has refused collaborating with many ace directors, like Ameer and Selvaragavan, and made them gravitate towards Yuvan Shankar Raja.

After a short interval, the maestro is back in the reckoning in Tamil cinema, and has accepted to score music for the film Kangalum Kavipaaduthey directed by Chandranath. The film has newcomers like Ranjith, Akash, and Charan playing the lead role.

Director Chandranath, the onetime assistant of P.Vasu is making his directorial debut through the film. Speaking about Ilayaraja, he says that he was impressed with the tunes composed by the maestro and that he was indeed a music wizard. He also added that all the songs for this film were composed within a couple of hours.
