THANGA MEENGAL Reviews

Oneindia.in

Tamil cinema has seen many movies that talks about the father-daughter sentiments. Movies like Kannathil Muthamittal and Abhiyum Naanum are considered to be the all time best movies in that genre. Thanga Meengal can also be included under the above mentioned category. Director Ramsubramaniam (Ram), who made his debut with the movie Katrathu Tamil in 2007, has made a remarkable debut as an actor too.

Verdict: Thanga Meengal is another movie that talks about father-daughter sentiment. Not a new concept, but it has uniqueness in the way of presentation. A must watch movie with your daughter.

BEHINDWOODS

Director Ram is back with his brand of intense cinema and this time he has based his tale around the relationship between a father and his daughter. Thanga Meengal has had its share of release issues but the buzz for the movie in the social media space was high, thanks to Ram’s proactive and impactful promotions.

One must laud the passion of the producers too and Gautham Menon, being an ambitious filmmaker himself, must have understood what Ram was up to, and his contributions to the final output of Thanga Meengal mustn't be undervalued.

Verdict: Thanga Meengal brims with heart felt heavy emotions, has lifelike performances and is a brilliantly made film.

Coming out of the theatre, I could see a parent hugging director Ram and congratulating him with tears. Can there a bigger appreciation for the film and its maker? There is no surprise why film-makers went gaga over ‘Thanga Meengal’.

If ‘Katradhu Thamizh’ was hard-hitting and brilliant, ‘Thanga Meengal’ is a masterpiece. Though the film’s release was delayed, the theme of the movie is timeless and will strike the right chord with the audience. A tale between a father and his daughter, this movie has so much more to it.

Bottom Line

There are very few movies that can make you laugh and cry at the same time. ‘Thanga Meengal’ is one among them and the movie should be celebrated. Watch this movie if you want to see more classics being made in Tamil.

Director Ram the man who brought about a revolution with his KattradhuTamizh is back after a long wait with the much awaited movie "Thangameengal". Produced by Gautam V Menon's Photon Kaathas, the movie was delayed quite a number of times and has finally hit the screens today.

True to his word, the movie is an abode of sentiments that revolve around various issues pertaining today in an ordinary family. Yuvan is the king of BGM and his soothing music has already made waves. So let us see what this movie is about.

Ram deserves a special mention for his direction cum acting, with only two movies he has proved his mettle and Kollywood needs more directors like him no doubt. The cameo by Padmapriya as a teacher might look uncalled for, however that's screenplay of twists!

Ergo, a movie is far more of an experience to feel and relish, go with your daughter and you are sure to enjoy!

Verdict: A pleasant ride, go for it !

Business Standard

Ram's "Thanga Meenal" is not your ordinary Tamil film that comes week after week. It's a rare children's film that rises to live up to its purpose while stumbling along the way. Despite being overly sentimental and bravely taking a dig at primary school education system and a few other things, "Thanga Meengal" is a coming-of-age story of an unfit father struggling to make ends meet, told through the eyes of his eight-year old daughter.

Barring few minor flaws, "Thanga Meengal" cuts you deep emotionally and achieves what several films in the recent past couldn't.
