London (ANI): It has emerged that raiders, who had broken into the mansion X Factor co-judge Cheryl Cole shares with her footie ace husband Ashley, had been after her two 310,000 pounds wedding rings. The Chelsea star, who was home when the incident took place, woke up as a window was forced in the early hours of February 18 at the 4million pounds mansion.
He immediately dialled 999 and told cops, “Please come quick. Someone"s trying to break in." The police are convinced the raiders struck after seeing photos of Cheryl, 26, flying out from Britain wearing neither of her two diamond rings.
The English footballer had bought the first, a 150,000-pound heart-shaped rock, for the couple"s 2006 wedding, and he gave her a square-cut dazzler worth 160,000 pounds in 2008 after he was exposed for romping with hairdresser Aimee Walton.
Cheryl had on February 17 been photographed flying out of Heathrow to Los Angeles wearing neither of the rings, choosing instead to wear an enormous gold “decoy" ring. The pictures were then posted on the Internet, leading cops to believe that the raiders acted on the thought that they would be at the Surrey mansion and easy pickings.
The raiders however managed to escape before the cops arrived, and it is not known if they had managed to steal the rings or not. One theory being worked on by detectives is that a member of the Coles" inner circle fed the burglars information.
“It cannot be coincidence that people attempt to break into the family home when both of them are due to be out of the UK," the Sun quoted a senior police source as saying.
