John Mayer defends pot smoking in new single

London (ANI): American musician John Mayer has defended his decision to sing about smoking marijuana in his new single. Mayer, 32, is releasing 'Who Says" as the first song from his new album 'Battle Studies", which boldly begins with the question, “Who says I can"t get stoned?"

And he hopes his controversial lyrics will spark debate among listeners as to why the drug has yet to be legalised in the U.S. “It"s not a dirty word. It"s not a curse word. It"s a presentation of an idea that makes people think a little harder about what they"re listening to, which I don"t think is the worst thing in the world," the Daily Star quoted him as telling PopEater.com.

Good for John Mayer. Pot should be legalized. I don't think it's a safe or healthy drug for everyone, and I think it can be addictive. I personally don't endorse using it, but I don't believe in prohibition or criminalization of the drug, which is less harmful than alcohol. Nobody has ever died from a marijuana overdose, and it has been shown to possess medicinal qualities, so medicinal marijuana should definitely be legalized everywhere. If the government taxed and regulated legal marijuana, it could be taken off the black market and it could help the economy, instead of wasting government resources on what illegal marijuana contributes to the war on drugs, and all the costs, violence, and stigmatization that it entails.
