London (ANI): A magazine in which John Lennon had scribbled that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus has been sold for 12,713 US dollars. In a 17 day online auction run by RR Auction of Amherst, New Hampshire, an orthopaedic surgeon at New York's Mount Sinai Medical Centre made the winning bid.
The September 1966 issue of Datebook has a photograph of the late musician with his sign 'John C Lennon' above it, reports the Daily Express.
He had said in the magazine: "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now. I don't know which will go first - rock'n'roll or Christianity."
The statement had even led to anti-Beatles sentiment in the United States.
