‘Ultimate underdog’ Kris Allen wins 'American Idol 8'

Thursday, May 21, 2009, 11:22 [IST]
New York (ANI): It was the “underdog" season on American Idol. After 19 weeks, the US chose clean-cut country boy Kris Allen as the country"s singer. Allen, 23, knocked glam god Adam Lambert off his pedestal to become the series' eighth title winner.

Although Adam was an early favorite with his huge vocals and in-your-face style and confidence, it was never a foregone conclusion he would win the final vote, reports The New York Daily News. For Lambert, a wild card was his sexuality – few months ago he was spotted kissing a man.

Also his singing and fashion style was reminiscent of gay icons from Queen singer Freddie Mercury to k.d. Lang.
As for Allen, he often talked about his wife and his church attendance.

Duh, if this was truly a singing contest than adam would have beaten Kris BLACK AND BLUE! Adam is vocally better, and he performs better too! Judges weren't biased, they were honest, Adam was just simply too good he deserves all the praises

I Live in Australia and I don't see Australia falling in love with him, he was to OTT and the Judges were so biased it was awful, Go Kris !!!!!!!

Adam is OTT, but I don't think he'd change that for the world, not even to have won American Idol. True artists give it all they've got, to hell with the critics' choice. Kris Allen might have represented a safer choice for many, but regardless of some people's motivations for voting, a true artist won. Think about how Allen was able to transform songs, and how the instruments he played added immeasurably to their beauty and style? The only shame about last night was in how American Idol handled their final show. The house played to Adam. I think they even had Kris Allen believing that Adam should win. That's disappointing, and points to how low they'll go to cater to the musicians and artists and judges who'd already crowned Lambert winner.

OH MY GOD, IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU? ADAM SUNG THREE DIFFERENT SONGS AND SOUNDED SO MUCH BETTER THAN KRIS! KRIS DID NOT HAVE AS MUCH VOCAL ABILITY AND TALENT AS ADAM, IF I WERE IN AMERICA I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM!!!

Both men are talented. What really matters is that Americans embrace talent, spirit, music and integrity. Best, M.
Oh please 21 May 2009 12:44 pm
Mariyas overreact much? America voted and Adam lost not because he might be gay but because he's too O.T.T. And maybe just maybe people don't like being told who is going to win in the first audition. Adam was the same throughout. Kris blossomed and that's why he won. Get over it. Kris is a talented guy and he deserves the win. Quit being a baby about it.

CONGRATULATIONS, AMERICA! Just shows the tweens of America are no better than their elders who voted BUSH twice. While that caused America to be the laughing stock of the world, this shows its ignorance. The WINNERS are votes of HATE, votes to spite, votes to bring down the deserving, votes against talent, votes of ignorance, votes of homophobia, votes of prejudice, bias and bigotry. Add votes of alienation due to AI judges, Katy Perry, EW Cover and bigoted fans. Though the judges' praise of ADAM is deserving, it backlashed. They should have taken into consideration the feelings of other fans. Hell hath no fury like fans scorned. This is a number competition. It doesn't necessarily mean Kris has more fans. Fans of other contestants simply voted against ADAM. What's overwhelming are votes of HATE. Congrats Tweens! Congrats Danny's fans! Congrats Vote For The WORST - you won. This is NOT a singing competition, NOT of talent, NOT of the best, NOT of popularity why ADAM is robbed BIG TIME of being acknowledge for his genius. No matter, he is on his way to SUPERSTARDOM. The world is waiting for him. If only the international fans could vote, this travesty will not happen. This AI 8 Season is hate and bigotry votes against ADAM. ADAM is too big for AI. He is The WORLD'S IDOL. GO ADAM!!!

Comparing American Idol's vote to the Bush terms is like comparing the Miss USA pageant to The Holocaust. The gravity of one far outreaches the other. American Idol is fun for most people, unlikely that it's about the hate and homophobia that some severely disappointed fans want to turn it into. We can be happy for both of these young men, who have long creative years ahead, I'm sure.

It doesn't matter who won the competition. It matters who sells CD's and who releases 5 projects over the next 9 to 10 years. Kris Allen won this competition because of MANY factors, including many described above. And while Adam is an amazing talent, he also has amazing stage presence. He's a seasoned pro. What Adam does NOT have, is the ability to pull someone into his eyes and sell them on a song. He relies entirely on the showmanship and entertainment value. These are NOT bad things! They just took 2nd place to an Man's Man Artist's Artist who could sing an emotion right into anyone's heart. Vocal talent isn't everything in the music business. If it were, a million people would be stars, and certainly Adam would be at the top of that list. Instead, its about that connection with the individual listener... and this season, no one did that better than Kris. I'm proud of both artists. And I'm proud of the US for making an interesting and very valid point: Music isn't only about entertainment and skill, but also about emotion and connectivity.

Just take a deep breath. It's not that bad ... you'll be okay. And so will Adam.

Adam has crazy great talent, and was quoted as saying, that "Kris Allen won because he's an artist." I think that's true. Kris' voice is not his only instrument, and that doesn't take anything away from Adam. On the contrary, it points to just how tough it was to decide between the two. I think they'll both do very well, perhaps for the first time in Idol history, even though last night was the Adam Lambert show, when it should have been a showcase for both of these talented artists.

I voted for Kris, not because he was married or went to church. I voted for him because I liked his singing style better. Stop making this about gay and not gay. Adam seems like a helluva nice guy, and is a consummate performer and a class act.
