Mitch Mitchell meets mysterious death

The last surviving member of Jimi Hendrix Experience, drummer Mitch Mitchell meets mysterious death at his hotel room in Benson Hotel Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday. According to doctor's reports, the 61-year-old died of natural causes.

The Englishman was drumming for Experience Hendrix tour, which was meant to celebrate the legacy of Jimi Hendrix. He had already completed concerts in 18 American cities and had performed last concert on Friday in Portland.

Jimi Hendrix' stepsister Janie Hendrix commented, "We're all devastated to hear of Mitch's passing. He was a wonderful man, a brilliant musician and a true friend. His role in shaping the sound of the Jimi Hendrix Experience cannot be underestimated."

Although Mitchell started in show business as a child actor, he abandoned that for his true love, jazz and rock music. He joined the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1966. He drummed on Hendrix classics such as 'Fire', 'Manic Depression' and 'Third Stone from the Sun'.

Mitchell was the last surviving member of Jimi Hendrix Experience band. Jimi Hendrix died in 1970 and the bassist Noel Redding died in 2003.

No one can match Mitch in rock bands today. No one. We have now lost the two greatest drummers of all time! John Henry Bonham & Mitch Mitchell. He is a timeless legend! We are so lucky that we will always be able to listen to Mitch on record and watch him on film!!! R.I.P
