Chris slams claims of lifting Satriani's song

Melbourne (ANI): Coldplay's Chris Martin has rubbished claims that the band lifted Joe Satriani's 'If I Could Fly', but confessed 'being inspired' by a Jeff Buckley song. The British alternative rock group's frontman admitted their 2000 hit single 'Shiver' had been a Buckley rip-off.

"It's a blatant Jeff Buckley attempt," the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying on the Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1. "Not quite as good, that's what I think. We were 21 and he was very much a hero, and as with those things it tends to filter through," he added.

Coldplay achieved worldwide fame with the release of their single 'Yellow', followed by their debut album, 'Parachutes' in 2000, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's early material had been compared to acts such as those of Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, U2, and Travis.
