The Police performed together for the first time in over 20 years on Monday (28.05.07). Frontman Sting and the band delivered a two-hour set for 20,000 fans at Vancouver's GM Place Arena, in Canada, marking the start of their first world tour for over two decades. Sting started the concert by joking: "Since we haven't been together in 25 years, I'd like to introduce the band."
The group, which also comprises of guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland, performed a string of their classic hits, including 'Message in a Bottle', 'Roxeanne' and 'Every Breath You Take'. Celebrity fans in attendance included supermodel Kate Moss, actress Penelope Cruz and Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder. Sting's wife Trudie Styler was also in the audience.
The band, who enjoyed worldwide success in the 80s, first split in 1984 amid rumours of clashing egos. The threesome reunited for a string of performances in 1986, then remained disbanded until Sting, 55, announced reunion plans earlier this year. The world tour is scheduled to run until early next year, with concerts due to take place across the US, Europe, Japan, Australia, Latin America and New Zealand.
