Luciano Pavarotti is no more

Luciano Pavarotti, the legendary opera singer and an ebullient stage performer, who regaled a whole generation of opera lovers with his perfect pitch and vibrant high C's, has finally succumbed to a protracted illness, his manager Terri Robson told the press. He was 71, and was suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Terri, in an e-mail statement to the Associated Press, wrote that Pavarotti died at his home in Modena, Italy, early in the morning. He also wrote that in keeping with his never-say-die attitude, Pavarotti remained positive till the very last moment of his life.

Luciano, born on October 12th, 1935, became one of the best known vocal performers in contemporary times, in the world of opera and across multiple musical genres. He was also noted for his humanitarian work, and received a medal from the UN High Commission for Refugees for his work related to refugees.

Monday, October 22, 2007 London (ANI): Late opera legend Luciano Pavarotti"s family has been left shocked by the knowledge that he ran up debts of 12 million pounds. Pavarotti"s second wife Nicoletta Mantovani and for his three daughters by his first marriage are said to be 'amazed" about his debts. Lawyers for the two sides are now looking into his bank accounts. When the famous singer died last month, his fortune was estimated to be in excess of 200 million pounds. However, respected.....

Jose, Placido join to honour Pavarotti

London (ANI): Singers including Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo got back together to commemorate the life of late tenor Luciano Pavarotti at a special tribute concert. The duo, who sang as 'The Three Tenors' with Pavarotti, reunited for the first time since the Italian"s death last year.

The concert was held at the site of ancient Treasury at Petra, Jordon. The event coincided with what would have been Pavarotti's 73rd birthday. The late musician is said to have always wanted to perform.....

Russell becomes 'Britain's Favourite Male Classical Singers'

London (ANI): Russell Watson has topped a new list of 'Britain's Favourite Male Classical Singer'. Watson, 41, who first shot to fame in 1999 after performing Nessun Dorma at Old Trafford, was named ahead of Welsh opera star Bryn Terfel, who was placed second in a joint poll run by Classic FM and Radio Times.
