'Sur' didn't match in Phir Mile Sur

For most Indians 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' has been close to the heart. The song which first premièred on 15th August 1988, was themed around 'unity in diversity.' It made Indians hum the lyrics of different languages they could never think of speaking. In the single channel Doordarshan era it was one of the most sought after programmes. The song which had Bollywood stars, musicians, cultural icons, sportsman and ordinary has its appeal even in the new millennium India. The song's popularity can be judged from the fact that it is one of the highest searched videos in YouTube.

To cash on this popularity and to spread the message of 'unity and diversity' in a rising and fast globalising India 'Phir Mile Sur' was conceived. The song has all the Bollywood stars from Aamir Khan to Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Bachchan and the list goes on. It seemed more of a Bollywood unity song than a song which unifies India. Sportsman were hardly represented, especially cricketers. India's biggest sporting icon Sachin Tendulkar not featuring has raised some eyebrows.

The original song had become popular due to it's rhythm which seemed missing in the new version. The song seemed montage of tunes and beats rather than a unity song and completely out of sync. The song seemed a little too long at almost 16 minutes. Noted author Chetan Bhagat says “Phir Mile Sur was so excruciatingly long, you almost wish India wasn't such a diverse place. 16 mins? Can't ppl sing together?"

If the earlier song represented diversity through language and places here it was more to do with Bollywood stars and singers from different part of the country. Subharaj Saha working with an MNC in Hyderabad says “The video was totally out of tune unlike the original one. I also felt that North-East has been completely overlooked (an immobile Bhupen does not count) There is so much more to N.E. The earlier video had representation of all the states as well"

Echoing him journalist Raj says “Pathetic version of a remarkable song! lost the message and meaning of the original! The song has been a disappointment to many others. Delhi based Nirmal Sharma says “What were they trying to prove? Bollywood is the only thing that unites India?" Arif however has a different take and says “This video has honoured the armed forces unlike the original which had no representation of our brave soldiers"

i don't think "sur phir mile".if it's the national song,it ought to represent national spirit. There was no need of ranvir, shahid and deepika.about deepika i would say,i think "saari" or "salwar" is our national attire.

The older version had to be left alone and with bollywood something new should have come out. After Sur Mile (1988), Maa Tuje Salaam really touched every heart. Could they have not come with a better tune and a new song for the 60th Anniversary of India becoming Republic (as mentioned by everybody).

it seems only bollywood has to do something in india.... if i would be any of the cultural official, i would have never made this video release in any part of the world.... it feels me shame to watch such stupid heroines and actors in place of our indian legends such as Dr. Kalam, Abhinav Bindra, Vijender and so on....

This video could have been produced with some other lyrics. Should have left the original Gold as such. I would like to go blind and deaf to this song. WE Should take it to court and put stay on such crap which they are trying to promote as patriotic. Please stop such crap.

i hated the new version of phir..... more than any thing in my life.it feel insulting even comparing it with the old MSMT. For me this new song is nothing more than a cold soul and cheap commercial venture. MSMT was the astonishing anthem for me and various other people like me who went to their childhood memories after seeing it any time anywhere. and for whom those are grown up with it... by watching it again and again. every time i see the old version i feel a new essence of indiawhich new versions lacks. at the age of 8 my favourite section was to have a glimse of my favourite three actor(amitabh, mithun, jitendra)but this was tottal juveineil act . i hope other people do have the same feeling but as i grown up, everytime i saw it, i fetched a knew package of learning , a new vibes which always gave me a relaxation and every thing feels so great. now in 21 centaury i think we are commercialised, corrupted and molesed to the peak, that even our soul anthem got corrupted. This new song shows us the fine example of our development through last 2 decade that that we are now become machine we have no sentiments.are we still acting juveneil like i used to do in my childhood.this PMSMT song is totally exhibiting our todays value that we still want to know what shahrukh is doing and to whome kareena is dating ...what the crap. MILEY SUR MERA TUMAHRA...even this 4 words didnt able to bring these three so called egoistic khans superstar together. than how can we assume that these people bring our nation pride . i was ashamed watching these so called bollywood actor took 10 minutes of precious time and leave nothing to the popular sportpersons, industrialists, scientist and painters. are we only known by bollywood people? is nothing far above this idiotic bollywood? sory to say but the director had even made a biggest mistake than ram gopal verma. i know that the song is made with the right sentimentiments but it got lost in the crowd of these filthy actors....

There is no need to exaggerate, appreciate bollywood faternity evrytime. This is not only profession/business left over in India as well as in the whole World. There r so many Prominent Profession, which count before Bollywood.

It's really a disappointment to see such a great song being ruined. The real soul is missing in the new version. Original one was best when it comes to the way music was composed and picturised. Too many things are missing, I think it should be stopped from being aired.

oh my god do nt ask abt milay sur..... song, its worst.i wonder is it a song which represent all states or a bolloywood actor nd actores showoff. wthats the need of highlighing too many cine stars.Song should have upgraded our india by presenting hero's like MASTER MIND SACHIN,AMBANI ,ABDUL KALAM nd so on. the drawback of present milya sur..... is by not highlighing our g8 culture nd tradition. Last but not least, song is worst, worst, worst which is makin me 2 change the chnnl.

The original Version feels like something natural all tunes, combinations, originality of artists and coverage of almost each part of country as well. The new version feels fully Artificial, they made fully show off no need of other Bollywood actess and change of Sur(tune) and I think the broadcaster should delete all copies of it and play Original one always.
