Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant, with his friend Prajakta Shukre's car crashed into a scooter last night, causing serious injuries to two people. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm at Daulat Nagar, Santacruz. Indian Idol participant and struggling singer Prajakta was driving the car. She was accompanied by three other girls. The victims to the accident, brothers Toufiq Khan (19) and Tauhid Khan (14), were hurried to Nanavati Hospital.
Eye witnesses to the accident accused Prajakta and Abhijeet of being drunk and driving. It revealed that there were three cars racing at Daulat Nagar when Shukre's car rammed into a scooter. Abhijeet immediately tried to defend Shukre by entering into a quarrel with the pedestrians. He also threatened the mob by boasting about his big contacts and asked every body to shut their mouth. This angered the mob thus, he was beaten up by them.
The police however, intervened and dispersed the crowd. Prajakta was sent for an alcohol test and medical examination at the Bhabha Hospital while, Sawant was taken to the police station. The police confirmed that the victims are now out of danger and proper actions against Prajakta will be taken once the medical reports are out.
Playback singer Sonu Nigam accompanied with some aspiring singers rushed to the spot to look after of the issue.
