Kadha, Samvidhanam:Kunchacko - Review

Malayalam's renowned director-writer-actor Sreenivasan's latest release Kadha, Samvidhanam: Kunchacko, directed by Haridas Keshavan (known as director Haridas), is a film that has been made in the most conventional manner and has nothing new to offer. The director has just rambled with his own story, which begins somewhere andgoes elsewhere, conveying nothing in the process. Kadha, Samvidhanam: Kunchacko altogether fails to impress.

The film revolves around a self-made millionaire Kunchacko (Sreenivasan), who owns a private bank, medical college, multiplex supermarket and many other private institutions. Born in a poor family, this 50-year-old bachelor became a business magnate only through cruelty and shrewdness. What he earned however, was always for his siblings. He has a large family of brothers, sisters and brother-in-laws (Ganesh, Prem Kumar, Sudhish, Sona Nair and Lakshmi Priya), who are all well-settled in life, all because of his generosity. Kunchacko never found the time to live for himself.

His siblings try their level best to make Kunchacko a polished man, but in vain. Finally, their parish priest Father Vattapara (Jagathy Sreekumar) advises them to persuade him to marry. Due to continuous pressure from his family, Kunchacko finally decides to marry and selects Anne Mary (Meena), daughter of a former employee of his finance company, and a software engineer by profession. Anne Mary had taken a loan from Kunchacko's bank and is finding it hard to repay it. At this juncture, Kunchacko offers to write off the loan if she agrees to marry him. Anne Mary agrees and they get married. On the night of their marriage, the hero has a change of heart, which is quite unconvincing for the audience to digest!

Sreenivasan as Kunchacko is his very usual self, donning the role with all his routine mannerisms. After the mega hits Udayananu Tharam (2005) and Katha Parayumbol (2007), Sreenivasan once again teams up with Meena who has given a convincing portrayal as Anne Mary in this film. The performances of the other cast members are just average. However, it is a pleasant surprise to see forgotten actors Prem Kumar and Sudheesh in full-length roles as Kunchacko's siblings.

As far as the technical side of the film is concerned, there is nothing much to mention. Music director Thej's lone song, penned by Gireesh Puthenchery, doesn't impress much and reminds you of a couple of other songs featuring Sreenivasan, especially the one in Udayanaanu Thaaram. All in all, Kadha, Samvidhanam: Kunchacko may be a few inches above the average stuff being churned out in recent times, but could have been made much better!

Producer: Manoj Ramsingh
Cast: Sreenivasan, Meena, Nedumudi Venu, Janardhanan, Ganesh, Vijayaraghavan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Siddique, Salim Kumar, Suraj Venjaramood, Suresh Krishna, Sona Nair, Lakshmi Priya

Naan Kadavul - Review

Naan Kadavul is not a film about the normal people who enjoy a secured life. The movie is a different take on the lives of those people who always live on the edge of the world.
