Thiruvananthapuram: Superstar Mohanlal has already starred in several Tamil films and also a few of his Malayalam movies have been dubbed in this language. These films have got him a huge fan base in Tamil Nadu. The actor, who was last seen with Kamal Hassan in Unnaipol Oruvan, is now all set to star alongside actor Vijay in his upcoming movie Jilla. And he has all praise for Ilayathalapathy, whom he calls his younger brother.
Produced by RB Choudary, Jilla is touted to be one of the big-budget Tamil movies of 2013. The makers of the film are highly guarding the story and the details of the characters in it. If we are to go by the latest reports, Mohanlal is playing the father of Vijay and his sister played by Niveda Thomas in the movie.
Jilla is set in Madurai. The first schedule of its shooting started in Karaikudi on May 13. Along with Poornima Bhagyaraj, Mohanlal took part in the filming of the movie. Recently, Vijay has joined Mohanlal to shoot for the movie. Sources from the production team claim that both actors are sharing great camaraderie on the sets and their combo scenes will be a magic onscreen.
Mohanlal has high regards for Vijay, whom he has met at a few functions earlier. "He's a nice and endearing human being. I respect and love him a lot because he's so down to earth. Now I'm not surprised with the huge fan following he has, not only in Tamil Nadu but in Kerala too," TOI quotes Lal as saying. "For me, Vijay is the boy-next-door, who has created a niche for himself in the industry," he added.
Mohanlal Starred In 10 Non-Malayalam Films
Mohanlal has acted in close to 300 movies in Malayalam a few of which have been dubbed in other languages. Besides this, he has also starred in several non-Malayalam films. So far, he has acted in 10 movies in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Tamil flick Jilla is his 11th non-Malayalam film.
Mohanlal's Debut In Tamil
Mohanlal made his acting debut in Tamil with director Priyadarshan's movie Gopura Vasalilea in 1991. He made special appearance in a song along with Karthik and Suchitra in the film.
Mohanlal Romanced Aishwarya Rai
In 1997, Mohanlal played male lead role in director Mani Ratnam's political drama Iruvar, which marks the debut of Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai. In the movie, he played a struggling actor Anandan, who marries a village belle Pushpa played by Aishwarya. It happens to be one of the notable films in his career.
Mohanlal Starred With Simran In Pop Carn
In 2003, Mohanlal played the hero in actor-cum-director Nassar's movie Pop Carn, which features him romancing Simran. The film was a flop at the Box Office. Later, it was dubbed into Malayalam and released in 2007 under the same name.
Mohanlal With Kamal Hassan
In 2009, Mohanlal shared the screen with Kamal Hassan in Chakri Toleti's debut movie Unnaipol Oruvan, which tells the story of a police commissioner who gets an anonymous call. Lal essayed the role of the police commissioner in the film, which received positive reviews from the critics and was a commercial success.
Mohanlal Shares Screen With Vijay
Jilla, which is written and directed by RT Nesan, is the fifth Tamil movie of Mohanlal. Since it features two superstars of South Indian cinema, the expectations are sky high. It should be seen whether it will be up to the mark.
