Producer Pavamani passes away

Producer and distributor S. Pavamani died of heart failure yesterday (August 31) at a private hospital in Eranakulam. He was 78. His body was cremated at Cemetherimukku C.S.I Cemetery on Wednesday. He is survived by his wife Sherly, son Santi (Prathap) and daughter Sheeba.

Son of the late S.J. Pavamani and Alice, who hailed from Kozhikode, Pavamani came to Kochi with family for textile business in 1953. Later, they started a film distribution company in 1959, under the banner of Sheeba films. He had the credit of bringing home popular Hindi movies like Aradhana, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mere Jeevan Saathi and Ganga Yamuna.

In 1972 they distributed a Malayalam film Chenda, directed by A. Vincent. He had distributed more than 100 films including Avalude Raavukal and Nirmalyam. He has produced Ayodhya, his first Malayalam film, under the banner of Prathap Chithra in 1975.

Some of his other films include Aayiram Janmangal, Aparadhi, Vilakkum Velichavum, Ponnum Poovum, Aswa Radham, Kaliyil Alpam Kaaryam, Uyarangalil, Gayathri Devi Ente Amma, Pookaalam Varavaayi and Bhoomigeethangal. Pavamani became the founder general secretary of All Kerala Distributors Association in 1978.
