In a bid to showcase and preserve the varied and unique art forms of Kerala, including music, dance, theatre and folk art, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has launched a performing arts centre named 'JT Pac' (Jose Thomas Performing Arts Centre) in Kochi in association with Jose Thomas, businessman and chairman of the Kerala-based Choice group. The centre is situated near the Tripunithura Choice School campus.

"I am very thrilled to announce the launch of JT Pac, for it is a unique concept in the country. Kerala being the hub of folkdance, art and theater, Kochi was an ideal place to establish the center. The rich heritage that the place offers is tangible enough to build a lot of interest in this center," Jose Thomas said.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Kalamandalam Gopi, Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar, Kalamandalam Leelamma, P.K. Narayanan Nambiar, Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, Janardhan Nedungady and Pokkam Panicker (Theyyam Dancer). The event was followed by 'The Rhythmn', a fusion of Carnatic, Hindustani and Western classical music, directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy and performed by 65 artists.

Designed by international experts, JT Pac boasts of a seating capacity of 700 and houses one of India"s most exhaustive research centers on performing arts. It will conduct training programmes and workshops led by maestros from around the world. JT Pac will also offer programs in art specifically for children. It is said that the board has plans to set up similar centers at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.
