Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has a few observations about his South Indian colleague Rajinikant's latest movie Kuselan (Kathanayukudu in Telugu) which has unexpectedly failed to impress audiences and lead the box office race, despite the huge success of its original Malayalam version Katha Parayumbol written by veteran Sreenivasan. Mohanlal observed that audiences cannot accept an actor like Rajinikanth in guest roles.
"Actors like Kamal Hassan and Rajinikant are larger than life. They cannot be accepted in guest roles. But I can get away with small cameos, offbeat roles, walk-on parts, anything. There are some actors in this country like Amitabh Bachchan, Chiranjeevi, Kamal Hassan and Rajinikant who are beyond success and failure," said Mohanlal, who believes these actors are really blessed people. "If you say I am one of them, then I too am blessed," he added.
Meanwhile, the exhibitors and distributors of Kuselan have gone to the extent of announcing a non-cooperation movement against the film's producers and the actor. The Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association demanded that they must be repaid at least 75% of the losses as against the 35% reportedly promised by Rajinikant himself. The association alleged that the producers had cheated them by saying that Kuselan was a full-length Rajinikant movie, while in reality the actor had only played a guest role.
Coming to Mohanlal, he is all set to do a full-on action scene with Jackie Chan in a Japanese film called Nair San directed by a Keralite, Albert. Mohanlal has learnt Japanese and Chinese for his role and now steps into the action arena with Jackie Chan, who makes a special appearance in the film.
Nair San will be subtitled in English and released all over the world. The action scene with Jackie Chan will be shot in Mongolia. "Jackie Chan appears in a major action sequence with me. I'm trying to physically prepare for the role. I'm the first actor from Malayalam cinema to feature in a Japanese film," Mohanlal proudly said.
