Mohanlal's Aakashagopuram postponed

Aakashagopuram, Mohanlal's offbeat movie with director K.P. Kumaran, has shifted its release date again. The film, which has been waiting for release for over two months, was initially scheduled for a Kerala premiere on 20 March.

Right now, the film is lined up for a premiere at Oslo, Norway, after which the local release date will be finalized.

Recently, the birth centenary celebration of Ibsen, the master playwright on whose play the film is based, was held at Oslo. Perhaps Aakashagopuram producers think that anything even remotely connected to Ibsen will sell in Norway.


Grapevine is also of the opinion that the release continuously being put off may be due to Lal going through one of the toughest stages of his career, with six continuous flops.

Aakashagopuram, being an offbeat film, may not be premium box office fare. Mohanlal is also keen on avoiding another bomb in the flop parade. So according to the Mollywood buzz, only after Mohanlal's Innathe Chinthavishasyam directed by Sathyan Anthikkad makes a go of it during Vishu, will Aakashagopuram see the light
 

Akashagopuram to go abroad

It seems that Malayalam cinema is following the path of Bollywood and Kollywood films by releasing in foreign markets. Akashagopuram, which is the highest-budgeted Malayalam movie so far, will be releasing in select foreign cities. Apparently, the producers believe that it is important to tap the foreign markets to recoup the investment made.
