Grand Opening for Maya Bazaar despite controversies

Mammootty
Mammootty's latest flick Maya Bazaar released on Wednesday (October 1), has opened to a good response across centres in Kerala. Maya bazaar opened in 93 centres in Kerala, breaking all previous records in the number of release centres. The film is expected to fetch great initial collections in the opening week.

For the first time ever in the history of Malayalam cinema, some centres like Kuzhithara, Kallachy, Kollamkodu, Ezhupunna and Oyoor got first release prints and it was a feast for the fans there, who solemnly celebrated the arrival of a big new movie in their home theatres. According to experts, this will create new enthusiasm and renewed interest from the people of these villages.

Notably Maya Bazaar, which marks the debut of director Thomas Sebastian and scripted by T.A. Razack, was released only in B and C class theatres due to the recent controversy between Cine Exhibitors' Federation (CEF), an organization of 'A' class theatres in Kerala, and Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) about the number of releasing centres of Mammootty's Maya Bazaar and Mohanlal's Kurukshetra.

In the film, Mammootty plays the role of 'Akkiri' Ramesh who buys old cars, dismantles them and sells the spare parts, operating out of Maya Bazaar, the market where spare parts are sold. The film has two heroines: Sheela, who has acted in several Tamil and Telugu movies, and Tisca Chopra of Tare Zameen Par fame.
