Filmmaker R. Sukumaran is making a film on the life of Sree Narayan Guru starring Mammootty in the lead role. The movie would showcase the activities of the great saint who spread new values of freedom in spirituality and transformed society in Kerala.
Narayana Guru, more popular as Gurudeva, is admired for his Vedic knowledge, poetic skills, and belief in non-violence. The great yogi, visionary, poet and social reformer worked for the upliftment of the downtrodden by fighting against the deep-rooted caste system. The movie will also highlight his relation with prominent personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Chattambi Swamikal. Veteran superstar Mohanlal plays the role of Swami Vivekananda in the film.
Mammootty has got yet another to chance to prove his talents in playing such different roles. His Hindi movie Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, starring him in the title role, earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor.
