Sugreeva – Review

Anaji Nagaraj's Sugreeva, which is produced under his home banner Anaji Films, has created a new milestone in the history of Kannada film industry. Ten directors have worked for the movie to complete it within 18 hours. But it hardly has any clue that shows that it has been shot in hurry.

Pramod Chakravarthy's story has been inspired by Denzel Washington starrer Hollywood film John Q, which was adopted in Hindi as Tathastu. The story revolves around a happily married mechanic hijacking a hospital to save his son, who is suffering from heart disease. The movie reminds the audience of Vishnuvardhan's Nishkarsha here and there.

Although the film starts with a dragging narration it turns serious by the time of interval. The screenplay and dialogues make the viewer tighten their seat belts. It becomes a thrilling and sensational story in the second half of the film.

The story revolves around Sugreeva [Shivaraj Kumar] who is a car mechanic. He teaches dance to his son Kiran [Master Chiranjeevi] including few others kids. He wants him to appear on the dance reality TV show. His wife Pooja [Yajna Shetty] also supports his dream. But once while watching the reality show 'Kuniyona Baara' on TV, Kiran falls down with excitement. Sugreeva takes him to the hospital, where doctors asks him to pay 35 Lacks for his heart surgery. Here the story takes a new twist which will be worth watching on screen.

As a father of deceased son, Shivaraj Kumar has delivered excellent performance. After Eddelu Manjunatha, Yajna has once again proved her talents. Master Chirnjeevi has also done well as a  child. Prakash Heggodi, Ninasam Ashwath, Manjubhashini, Raju Talikoti have done justice to their respective roles.

Musician Gurukiran does not have much job in the film. He has composed music for one song as well as background score. Ten cinematographers have worked for the film, which is really wonderful.

In a nutshell, the movie Sugreeva is an exception to the rule “Too many cooks spoil the dish." The movie is really a good entertainer and a family members can sit together and watch it.

Director: Om Prakash Rao

Cast: Shivaraj Kumar, Master Chiranjeevi, Yajna Shetty, Prakash Heggodi, Ninasam Ashwath, Manjubhashini, Raju Talikoti and others
