Naanu Nanna Kanasu – Review

Finally, Prakash Raj has fulfilled his dream by releasing his much-hyped directorial debut venture Naanu Nanna Kanasu. With it he has proved that he is not only a talented actor, but is also an efficient director. Even though it is a remake of the hit Tamil film Abhiyum Naanum, which was remade in Telugu as Akashamantha, the debutant director has adapted it according to the taste of the native audience. He has definitely instilled newness and freshness in the film.

Naanu Nanna Kanasu is all about the relationship between a father and his daughter. The film is made on and family values and unlike today's movies, it deals with a message to the society. It has a few commercial elements like love, sentiment and action too. With the humorous treatment of the subject, director Prakash Raj manages to run the story smoothly thereby making the audience tighten their seat belts.

The film starts with Uthappa (Prakash Raj) meeting with a young father Jayanth (Ramesh Arvind) on his morning walk. As they introduce to each other, Uthappa begins to narrate to Jayanth how it was to bring up his own daughter Kanasu (Amoolya).

Uthappa is elated when a small baby girl Kanasu is born to his wife Kalpana (Seethara). He looks after the child with immense love and pampering and develops a special bond with her. He caters to all her needs. When Kanasu asks for the permissions to pursue her post graduation, he permits her to go to Delhi. But she returns home with a journalist boyfriend. When she wants to marry him, he opposes her. What is the real need for objecting the marriage forms the climax of the story.

Besides directorial part, Prakash Raj shines in acting too. He has played the father and has given a wonderful performance. As his daughter, Amoolya looks cute and she has done justice to her role. Although Ramesh has guest appearance in the film, he manages to make his mark on the audience's mind. Seethara, Rajesh, Achyuth Kumar and Sihi Kahi Chandru have done justice to their respective roles.

If the story of the movie is the first highlight, then Hamsalekha' music is the second plus point of the film. A couple of songs are really worth humming. Especially, the song 'Maamara Maamaradallondu Kogile...' is very melodious and haunts the minds even after we are out of the theatre. Ananth Urs' camerawork is also a highlight of the film.

However, when the Kannada film is suffering from lack of family dramas, Prakash Raj has come out with a solace to the Kannada audience and his film Naanu Nanna Kanasu is really a good family entertainer.

I was fortunate enough to attend the premiere screening of the film. It is a beautiful movie. A must watch for all dads who have a daughter. Hats off to Prakash Raj for choosing a conventional family story with emotional strings attached without any masala(which is a rarity in todays movie). One cant watch the movie without shedding a tear or two.It is so touching. Prakash Raj does not seem to act. He is so natural and so are the others. I wish the entire team the best of luck and thank them...
