Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishna is one of India's most influential scholars of comparative religion and philosophy. He was also a teacher par excellence and had done lot of contribution towards Indian education system. He believed, "Teachers should be the best minds in the country." He had a great respect for teachers. He even made his birthday celebrate as Teacher's day.
Which is why his birthday - September 5 is celebrated as Teacher's day, which is meant to commemorate the contribution of teachers. Today, we honour all the teachers who have made our life much more knowledgeable and fulfilled, as serving as our beacons of light. On this occasion, several Kannada stars spoke to Oneindia and shared their feelings towards their favourite teachers.
Multi-faceted star Ramesh Aravind opines, "In my opinion, there is a balance in heaven. If you put all celebs in one pan and a good primary school teacher in another, the second pan will weight more. A good teacher can change the future of many leaders every years. He can inspire the students. We are stars today because of what those teachers moulded us in the primary school."
We bring you the messages of actors Ramesh Aravind, Chetan, Prem Kumar, Nidhi Subbaiah, Chethan Chandra and directors Shashank, Sumana Kittur and Prashanth Raj who went gaga over their favourite gurus on Teacher's day. Continue to see them in the slideshow.
A teacher, who inspired me is my Gender Studies and Anthropology Professor Mr Barney Bate at Yale University. It was through his instruction, I came to understand how our patriarchal (andro-centric) Indian society unduly privileges males at the expenses of women and those of other genders. The reading materials provided by Bate as well as class discussions have helped me to find solutions to subvert and overcome the lop-sided state of today's gender politics.

My life, which has taught me a lot, is my first best teacher. Secondly, my mother is also my favourite teacher. I thank all my school teachers, who have raised me to this level. The directors whom I have worked with so far, are also my favourite teachers. I have learnt a lot from all of them and remember them forever.
I studied in Central School Mysore, and not one, but I have seven favourite teachers. I have done my education from 1st-10th in this school and for 10 years, they have been part of my life. They have moulded me and taught me many things. More than bookish knowledge, they have taught me discipline. My NCC teachers and a few teachers in college have taught me lot of things, guided and encouraged. I can't quote one name because all are important for me.
I wished all my school and college teachers in the morning. I look up to my gym coach Pani Puri Kitty as my favourite teacher, and I am celebrating the day with him by cutting a cake.
Late, primary school teacher Somashekhar is my favourite. I have done primary education from a school run by Vishwesharayya Iron company in Badhravathi. Somashekhar was a headmaster as well as my class teacher. He encouraged me to learn new things, instilled leadership qualities and courage in me. He used to treat me like his own son. He even used to call me to his room and give eatables. He has played a vital role in my career. I always remember him.
Director Sumana Kittur
I have not studied in big school and not well qualified. I had my primary education in a Kannada medium school. On the eve of Teacher's day, I would like to remember teacher Shankarappa (mestru) for giving me basic knowledge about reading and writing. But my favourite teacher is Agni Shridhar sir. He is the one who gave me higher knowledge. He has taught me how to read and write. He has human values. I will never forget him. I wish him happy Teacher's day.
Director Prashanth Raj
I was very week in Hindi and I often used to find reason to skip the class. One day, Fathima madam, who used to teach us Hindi, came to know about it. She took personal care. After school hours, she gave free tuition classes at her home and made me learn the language. She instilled lot of confidence in me. As a teacher, she will always remain special in my heart. I wish her happy Teacher's day.
