Remembering Manna Dey's Kannada Songs

Legendary Singer Manna Dey, who had crooned evergreen tracks 'Jayathe jayathe jayathe sathyameva jayathe' and 'Kuhu kuhu yenutha haaduva kogile', passed away on the wee hours of Thursday (Oct 24), in Bangalore. He is survived by two daughters.

The 94-years-old singer, who was based out of West Bengal, had settled down in Bangalore from many years. He was staying with his daughter Shumita Deb in Kalyan Nagar, Bangalore East. Manna Dey was admitted to Narayan Hrudayalaya, Hosur Road. He was suffering from respiratory ailment and renal failure, for which he was kept in ventilator support for some time.

It is reported that his body would be kept for public viewing at Ravindra Kala Kshetra. The eminent personalities of Sandalwood and other politicians are likely to take part in the funeral of the legendary singer.

Manna Dey, who made his debut as a playback singer in the film Tamanna in 1942, has crooned for more than 4,000 songs in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Assamese. He has also sung few songs in Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Magahdh, Punjabi, Maithilee, Konkani, Sindhri and Chhattisgarhi. His singing career during 1953-1976 is considered as his golden period.

Manna Dey in Kannada

Manna Dey had crooned his voice for the tracks 'Jayathe jayathe jayathe sathyameva jayathe' and 'Kuhu kuhu yenutha haaduva kogile' from Kalpavruksha and Kalavathi, respectively.

Sathaymeva Jayathe

Manna Dey had crooned 'Jayathe jayathe jayathe sathyameva jayathe' from the movie Kalpavruksha. The song was penned by the famous poet Ku Ra Seetharamashastri, and director Jayadev had scored the music.

Kannada Movie Kalpavruksha

KS Ashwath, Balakrishna, Pranaya Raja Srinath, Indrani, Ranga and Vijay Leela were seen in the important roles in Kalpavruksha. It was directed by Jayadev.

Kannada Movie Kalavathi

Kalavathi had Uday Kumar and Chandrakala in the lead roles. The track 'Kuhu kuhu yenutha haaduva kogile' was featured on Uday Kumar.

Director Guruprasad

Director Guruprasad had also used 'Jayathe jayathe jayathe sathyameva jayathe' in Mata. The latest version was crooned by Chethan Saaska.
