Kannada film fraternity demonstrated its solidarity with farmers and pro-Kannada organisations on the ongoing Cauvery river dispute by staging a protest on Saturday (September 6). Supporting the bandh, the entire film industry stood for the cause of the state.

The entire film industry gathered around 10.30 am on Saturday and marched to Raj Bhavan and handed over a memorandum to Governor HR Bhardwaj. Rebel Star Ambareesh lead the film industry in the protest, which was held against the centre's directive to the state to release 9,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily for Tamil Nadu, he was backed by actors Dwarakish, Shivaraj Kumar and Upendra.

Ambareesh Speaking At The Protest

Ambareesh said, "If we had 100 rupees, we would have not hesitated to pay Rs 50 to Tamil Nadu but how could we give 50 to our neighbours when we have a single pie? Our farmers here don't have enough water and it is impossible for us to give water to Tamil Nadu at this stage. Let us fight peacefully against the centre's decision."

Shivaraj Kumar At The Protest

Shivaraj Kumar said, "The industry has always supported our farmer's cause. We will never compromise when our land, language and water are at stake. The entire state should unite to protest against the centre's decision. This is not against any state or language but against the injustice being done to our people."

Upendra At The Protest

Upendra said, "Hitting to streets will not find a solution. We should stage dharna in front of our elected leaders' house and we should block the roads travelled by our politicians for putting our state in trouble. However, Cauvery belongs to Kannadigas and we support our farmers in the issue."
