Over 90 Kannada films have already released in the current year and a series of movies have lined up for the release in the month of December. Despite facing a lot of issues including shortage of theatres, the Sandalwood has produced quite a few superhits in the year 2012.
In the first six months, more than 50 movies were released, out of which only a handful of films became money spinners. Puneet Rajkumar's Anna Bond, despite getting thumbs down from critics, had become the highest grosser in the first half of the year followed by Upendra's Katari Veera Surasundarangi and Darshan's Chingari.
Pooja Gandhi's Dandupalya, and newcomer Dhruv Sarja's Addhuri emerged as the surprise winners at the Box Office. In the second half, Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna became the biggest hit followed by Shiva, Kalpana, Drama, etc.

Newcomer Dhruv Sarja got a dream debut with his Addhuri and won the hearts of youths. The film, which also features Radhika Pandit, is a simple yet engaging love story directed by AP Arjun. V Harikrishna's music played a major role in the film's success.
Puneet Rajkumar's Anna Bond garnered mixed response from audience but the Suri directional film managed to make good business at Kannada Box Office. The film, which also features Priyamani and Nidhi Subbiah, is action flick with also masala elements.
Chingari stood different from all Darshan's earlier films and lived up to his fans' expectations. The major part of the film, which also featured Deepika Kamaiah, was shot in France and it was directed by Harsha.
Despite getting thumbs down from majority of critics, Dandupalya became hit among masses. The hardcore content and Pooja Gandhi's dare bare acts attracted the audience. It was directed by Srinivasu Raju and it also featured Makarand Deshpande, Raghu Mukherjee, etc.
Yogaraj Bhat came up with yet another rom-com titled Drama. His last few films were criticised for weak story but in this film, he had a strong story. The film starred Yash and Radhika Pandit.
Sumana Kittur's Edegarike is based on the book of the same name written by journalist and writer Agni Shreedhar. Like Aa Dinagalu, the film is getting good response after the release. It stars Aditya, Atul Kulkarni and Akansha in the lead roles.
Komal Kumar, with his promotional skills, pulled audience to theatres for his Govindaya Namaha. The song, 'Pyarege Agbittaita...' brought the film under limelight. On release, the film got positive response from critics.
Katari Veera Surasundarangi
Upendra and Ramya's Katari Veera Surasundarangi became the biggest-ever 3D film made in Kannada till date. This format of the film was well-received by Sandalwood audience.
Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna
Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna is based on the freedom fighter of the same name with the Challenging Star performing the role of Sangolli Rayanna and veteran actress Jayaprada enacting the role of Kittur Chenamma. It is one of the biggest hits of 2012.
Sidlingu is a romantic-drama starring Yogish and Ramya. Engaging tale with a lot humour played major role in the film's success. It was directed by Vijayprasad and produced by TP Siddaraju.
