Yeddyurappa promises to preserve Bhimsen Joshi's legacy

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa has announced Rs. 10 crores to preserve the legacy and memory of the vocalist Bhimsen Joshi, who died of prolonged illness in Pune yesterday. The CM visited Pune to pay his last respect to the Hindustani exponent. Meanwhile, he said that his government will build a memorial at his home town in Dharwar, Karnataka.

Along with former RSS chief KS Sudarshan, Yeddyuruppa visited Bhimsen Joshi's residence 'Kalashree' in Pune and paid tribute to his departed soul. Addressing the media, he expressed his grief over the sad demise of the classical music maestro. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister described Joshi as a 'most-talented musician'.

On Monday, the Karnataka Government declared a day"s mourning on the demise of legendary vocalist Bhimsen Joshi, who was born, brought up and educated at Gadag in Dharwad district, Karnataka. In Pune, BS Yeddyurappa announced that his government would launch a Rs. 10 crores scheme to preserve the legacy and memory of the vocalist at his home town in Karnataka.

However, Bhimsen Joshi passed away yesterday due to multiple organ failure. His mortal remains were kept at his residence for the public to pay the last respect. His creamation, which took place at Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune yesterday evening, was attended by several dignitaries including Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan, Union Minister SM Krishna, Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa and KS Sudarshan. His elder son Raghavendra performed the last rites at the electric crematorium.
