What do we all expect when two Hollywood legends such as Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro come together? An adrenaline-pumping, pulse-racing thriller bringing you to the edge of the seat. But Righteous Kill is not quite that. Jon Avnet has pretty obviously tried to bring out the best in these two artistes to make a deep dark cop story, but somewhere something went wrong, and Righteous Kill turns out to be just another cliched serial killer story.
Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro play well-seasoned cops in the New York City Police Department and have quite evidently been partners on the force for the entire time. They are trying to track down a serial killer who chooses acquitted criminals as his victims. A video that shows Robert confessing to the gruesome murders makes him the prime suspect from the audience's point of view. But is his confession true? If so, what could have urged this hard-nosed cop to turn criminal? Jon Avnet attempts to answer these questions with as much intrigue as possible. Unfortunately, not enough.

It's hard to place the blame, and probably unfair to land it all on the director. It's a fairly interesting story and by virtue of that, it should have made a great watch. But it's cliched, has a mishmash of sex and gore and lacks in pace. Righteous Kill falls way below expectations, but makes a reasonably interesting watch the first time.
