On June 8, David Letterman delivered a joke about Laden's lieutenant Ilyas Kashmiri during his monologue for his 'Late Show with David Letterman'. He had said, "So [al Qaeda] picked a successor to Osama bin Laden and his name was Ilyas Kashmiri. Well, guess what, he was blown up by an American drone."
A Muslim militant named Umar al-Basrawi was angered by his joke. So he called on Muslims in the US to "cut the tongue of this lowly Jew and shut it forever." His comment read, "He showed his evil nature and deep hatred for Islam and Muslims and said that Ilyas Kashmiri was killed and he joined bin Laden." The posting also read. "We ask Allah to paralyze his tongue and grant the sincere monotheists his neck."
